Hello, does anyone here have experience of going from an extension of stay based on education to an extension of stay based on employment?

I'm currently on an Ed-Visa (still valid) but have been offered a job. My prospective employer has asked me to cancel my ed-visa and go on the covid extension which they will then transfer to an extension of stay based on employment. Has anyone been through this process?

Thanks in advance.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is currently on a valid Ed-Visa and has a job offer. They seek advice on transitioning from an education-based visa to an employment visa. Comments reveal that it is generally not allowed to switch directly from an Ed-Visa extension to an employment extension. The recommended process involves canceling the Ed-Visa, applying for a 60-day COVID extension, and subsequently applying for a Non-B visa and then for a year extension based on employment.

Nope you're not gonna get an immigration office to cancel your ED extension and then allow you to apply for a new extension based on employment. It's not done that way.

The ONLY way you might pull it off is to cancel your ED visa extension, apply for a 60 day covid extension, THEN get documents from the employer to first apply for an in country 90 day Non-B visa and after that a year extension based on employment.

You can't just go from an ED extension to an extension based on employment 😕

thank you, I just wanted to confirm that this would be the process. I think you’ve answered my question. Once again, thank you for your help.

What is this "ED-Visa (still valid)"? Can you look in your passport and see if it says "extension of stay"?

Before I answer your question, this is an in-person class you're attending, correct?

the classes started in-person but went online due to the recent restrictions but will go back to in-person next week.

What you'll need to do is get a letter from your school saying you are no longer studying. You'll take the letter to the immigration office, and ask them to cancel the extension of stay based on studying. AT THE SAME TIME, you'll go and apply for a 60 day extension fo stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19.

Different immigration offices have different requirements, but all require the following:

1. Your passport and:

a. a copy of your data ("picture") page

b. a copy of your most recent visa (if you have one)

c. a copy of your most recent stamp

d. a copy of your departure card

2. [May not be asked at Bangkok immigration] A TM30, filed in the immigration office.

3. The forms (each immigration office may have different forms, and want to use their special forms). For Bangkok Immigration, the forms are located in the files section in the group.

4. [Not asked at Bangkok Immigration] A letter from your embassy saying you can not return, OR a print out from your embassy website saying they don’t issue the letters, OR a print out of a letter from the embassy saying they don't issue those letters.

5. 2x passport pictures

6. 1,900 THB.

Different immigration offices have different policies. *SOME* may require:

- The ID card of the property owner where you are staying

- Copies of *ALL* stamped pages in your passport

You'll be able to purchase an in-country Non-B visa and then a one year extension of stay based on employment. Talk to your potential employer about the process and the documents they require.
