My boyfriend just finished bachelor degree and has just got a job here in Thailand. And his current visa is Non-immigration (education). Is it possible to change non-Ed to non-b (work permit) in Thailand without going back to his country? Normally, non-Ed has to be cancelled and get non-b in the applicant’s country.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The possibility of changing a Non-ED visa to a Non-B visa without leaving Thailand largely depends on the employer's ability to facilitate the visa transition through the local immigration office after the Non-ED visa is cancelled. It is essential for the applicant to coordinate with both the employer and the immigration office to determine the specific steps necessary for this process.
It's an immigration office/ employer related question. Talk to them. If anyone has anything else to add, please send a message to a mod and we'll reopen comments. Good luck.
Whether he can or can't go from an ED visa extension to a Non-B visa/extension inside the country totally depends on whether his employer can get the in country Non-B visa issued at the immigration office once the ED visa extension is cancelled.
He needs to be talking to his employer AND the immigration office to see if it can or can't be done.
