Question to the B-Visa holders...

I got my B-Visa new now but only for 9 months because my passport expires in March 2026.

Last time, when I had to get a new passport, I got my visa for 1 year and then they just transferred the visa from the old to the new passport.

Has anyone of you experienced that, too or know any source (link) where I can find a clear information about it?

I am really wondering if it was correct what they did or just another kind of money making of immigration or my accounting office which is doing my visa?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user seeks advice on the process of transferring their B-Visa from an expiring passport to a new one. They received a 9-month visa due to their passport expiration date and are questioning the validity of prior practices where visas were transferred for longer terms. Comments clarify that the extension cannot exceed the passport's validity and that transferring visa stamps to a new passport is a standard procedure without any associated fees.

He may have gotten a new passport last time but it doesn't mean that your old passport was expired. Your recent experience is the correct way, extension stamp till the expiry of your passport.

They won't give a extension beyond your passport validity. You will need to apply for another extension before this one expires and after you have a new passport. As

says you will also need to transfer stamps to your new passport when you get it, update bank records, driving licence etc

The last time when I got a new passport I got that the visa for one year even the passport was not so long valid as the visa. And then they just transferred the stamp to the new passport. So I want to know the official rule for it why it is now not possible.

the official rule is that you can't get an extension beyond the validity of your passport. No idea how you managed it last time

you cannot get an extension beyond the expiry date of your passport, end of

When you get your new passport you take it along with your old passport to the office that issued your extension of stay stamp (it’s not a Non B visa) and get the stamp transferred.

No idea why you think it’s a money making thing as the transfer is free.

my brand new visa is now only 9 months valid and not 12 anymore. Before it was 12, even my passport wasn’t valid such as long and so they transferred it but now they gave it only for 9 months.

You can only get an extension for one year or as long as your passport is valid until whichever is the shorter. The fact that you only had 9 months left when you extended means you only got an extension for 9 months. Completely normal.

You’ll have to get the stamps transferred and apply for a new year extension when that stamp is running out.

Ok, might be now normal. 10 years ago it was possible.
