Hi,

Which one does "valid until" in a tourist visa mean?

1: valid for entry until Oct 11 2023, and can stay for 30 days even after the "valid until" date (e.g. Enter Thailand on Oct 11, and can stay until Nov 10th)

2: valid for the whole stay, meaning 30 days stay must finish on "valid until" date (e.g need to enter and leave before Oct 11)

Thanks!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The 'valid until' date on a Thailand tourist visa indicates the last day you can enter the country using that visa. For example, if the valid until date is October 11, 2023, you must enter Thailand by that date. Upon entry, you will receive a 60-day stamp, which can be extended for an additional 30 days at a local Thai Immigration office.

And with that I believe we have answered the OP questions.

It's the last date you can enter Thailand using this visa, after that it's expired and useless. If you enter on 11-Oct (or any date before) you'll get a 60 day entry stamp which can be extended for a further 30 days.

These are the common found requirements for the 30 days extension of stay... from your local Thai Immigration office. Be sure to have a TM 30 address registration on file with Thai Immigration.

Hi James. I have a question about this. My Canadian friend is arriving in Bkk from Canada mid-January 2024. She wants to stay 60 days. Can she get this on arrival or is it only 30 days? I looked at a Thai Immigration website and I believe I saw that if she went to a Thai Immigration office in say Hua Hin she can only extend it for 7 days. Is this correct or could she extend it for 30 days? Thanks very much for your thoughts and advice.

IF she buys a Thai tourist visa from her Thai Embassy before she flies to Thailand, she will get 60 days STAMP on arrival .. Plus can get a 30 days added extension of stay

... total of 90 days

IF she arrives Visa Exempt... she gets 30 days STAMP and can go to Thai Immigration for ADDED 30 days for 1900 Thai baht.

Remember the Day she arrives counts as DAY #1.

The Thai tourist visa is valid for Entry into Thailand for 3 months FROM the DATE it's issued.

In the tourist visa shown.. The last Day you can arrive into Thailand is October 11th.

On arrival you are STAMPED in for 60 days.

Plus you can get a 30 days extension ADDED to your stay at local Thai Immigration office for 1900 Thai baht.
