Hi everyone!

I’m planning to apply for the DTV visa and buy a motorcycle in Thailand.

Does anyone here have experience registering a motorbike under their name while on a DTV visa? Were there any issues at the Land Transport Office?

I’d really appreciate hearing about your experience — especially regarding the documents required and whether you needed a residence certificate.

Thanks in advance 🙏

TLDR : Answer Summary
Several respondents confirm that registering a motorcycle while on a DTV visa is feasible. To do so, you will need to obtain a Certificate of Residence from Thai immigration. This can usually be acquired without issue if you properly registered your address. Comments also note that the process at the Land Transport Office typically involves presenting this certificate, along with ensuring all vehicle taxes are paid. Some users mentioned they had assistance from dealerships in handling registrations.

No issue at all. Needed resident certificate and all previous (if overdue) vehicle taxes paid, as well as inspection.

You need to be legal in Thailand and living on an address.

You need a Certificate of Residence which you get from the Immigration office where your address is registered.

Every foreigners needs to be registered at Immigration within 24 hours after arriving at that address, this has nothing to do with the way you entered Thailand.

Registering a vehicle in your name is irrespective of your visa - at least in a direct sense. What you will need is a residence certificate from Thai immigration, though. And that might be a catch with some immigration offices. As some might not issue a residence certificate if on a regular tourist visa or visa exemption. As a DTV holder however, you should have no issue getting a residence certificate, if you did the TM.30 before.
