TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion addresses the feasibility of obtaining a Thai driver's license while holding a DTV visa. Most participants confirm that it is indeed possible to obtain either a temporary or an extended driver's license with a DTV. Key requirements include presenting a Certificate of Residency, which can often be acquired regardless of visa type, along with necessary documentation such as a valid home country license, health certificate, and passport. While some users report successful applications, others note varying experiences, indicating that requirements may differ slightly by location.

Yes my husband and I just got our Thai driver's license in Phuket, really easy to get make sure you have an IDP and your home country license, a passport size photo, copies of the data page of passport and page with visa stamp, and you'll need a certificate of residency, only a two year license being on DTV

Licenses can be made on any visa as long as you can get a certificate of residence from immigration (or any agent which is useful if you don't have a tm30 or any other weird requirements such as 90 day reports)

Yes of course. It’s not hard or complicated. Just look up the nearest DLT and go in and ask what you need. If you can’t find it ask any Thai person.

In my case I had an American car and motorcycle license so it was easy to convert to Thai license. If you don’t have a local license you can do the test n all that or take a training course which guarantees the license at the end.

It’s highly recommendable.

Take a visit to some beaches and do it on samui. It'd one of the easiest places to get a residence certificate

I know for sure that Phuket Immigration Office gives residence certificates to people on visa exempt stamps, anyone can get one easily

@Neil *****
that is also not true. The resident certificate just shows where you live. You can get it in any type of visa situation.

Go back and clarify what you're asking for.

thats what i thought steve but they were adamant.i dont know if you can apply from a different province

@Neil *****
that is probably it. You most likely need to apply where your TM30 says you live.

weird everyone else has no issues getting it. People get it on tourist visa and exemptions

You can convert an international drivers lisence to a Thai one.

Also obtain Certificate of Residancy from imigration (by bringing them TM30),

The original lisence from your home country, a health certificate from a doctor (dated not more than a month old),

And go with all this to lisence registration office.

A number of DLT offices will give you a temporary Thai licence (the 2 year one) on a tourist visa but others want you to be on a Non-immigrant visa
Steve *******
Your visa type has literally nothing to do with getting a license here.

You just need to either go to school and do the 2 day course, or convert a foreign license to a Thai one.

You can get the 2yr temporary license on a DTV.
