TLDR : Answer Summary
To enter Thailand under the 60-day tourist visa exemption, you'll generally need just your passport. However, it is recommended to have proof of onward or return travel, such as a flight itinerary, and possibly accommodation arrangements, although these are not consistently required. Ensure that your nationality is on the visa exemption list, and be prepared for potential questions at the departure check-in.

he is an illegal in the 'States'... so what country you suggest he puts?
Baz *********
@Damo **********
We must assume he had at least got a passport or he won't be going anywhere..

Whatever country issued the passport is what rules apply to his entry
Damo ***********
@Baz ********
fair enough.. can we also assume he got no further than 3rd grade in school?

@Damo **********
I doubt that has much to do with it..

Apparently dumb and ignorant people are also permitted to travel..

In fact it's amazing how many ignorant idiot tourists you see overseas.

It's a miracle some of them manage to find the airport in the first place 🤣

oh yea.. I have advised some of those people not to venture out past their mailbox... they are seriously a concern 🙄🤦

A passport and prove of onward/return travel.

@Angelo **********
You do not need onward travel ticket/document, many people come here then travel overland to say Malaysia etc.
Angelo ***********
@Michael *******
You need it by Thai law. The Airline might reject you boarding, the immigration officer at the border might you deny entry.

Sorry, you are misinformed.

No one comes here with no on ward travel proof, on a tourist Visa or Visa exempt.

I came to live here from the UK came on a tourist visa and single air fare, no one every asked for onward travel confirmation.

@Michael *******
Then you had luck. Depending on the visa, e.g. multiple entry tourist visa, you do not need it. But he comes with no visa, aka visa exempt. So he needs it. Regarding multiple entry tourist visa, I do not remember if you need one. If so, it will be mentioned on the eVisa web site.

You might also need to show you have a place to stay (it’s not consistent) and sometimes a return ticket out but the return ticket is more often requested by the agent checking you into your flight from the departure country
Henrik *****
Not a return ticket, but a onward ticket.

There is a big difference
John ********
@Joe *******
no airlines require a return ticket. An onward ticket works as well. You don’t have to return from where you arrived.
Joe ********
Look in the mirror. If you look like you have no money you will be asked more questions

I don’t get much grief now but traveling to the Europe when I was younger I was grilled. I suspect it’s similar in Asia as I wasn’t asked for anything on most of my trips last year (

ticket out of Thailand can be bus or train not just air but must be dated before the end of the visa exempt stamp.
Nongnuch ********
@Richard ****
many airlines do not accept bus or train tickets as a proof of onward travel. Just "real" flight tickets. Even "fake onward tickets" can get refused
Graham ******
@Nongnuch *******
Where have you seen that someone with what you call a "fake" onward travel ticket being refused?
Nongnuch ********
@Graham *****
in Europe. Wait and watch it happen, again and again. More and more airlines are refusing the onwardtickets, because they are blocking the ETIX system. These fakes are not real tickets, they are just reservations, and airlines hate them
Graham ******
@Nongnuch *******
I am on many of these groups and have yet to see a first hand post of someone using an onward ticket who had it refused. I have seen second hand reports such as yours so I am doing just what you say, waiting and watching.
Nongnuch ********
@Graham *****
agreed, I haven't read a report of anyone being refused, yet, however I think it is going to happen. I won't risk it, better buy a "real" cheap one-way ticket like Air Asia from DMK to Siem Reap for 45 USD and know I got a guaranteed onward travel proof
Richard *****
@Nongnuch *******
never heard of that before but then I’ve never been asked for a ticket of any description in the 8 years I’ve been there. 3 times last year and twice this year!
Nongnuch ********
@Richard ****
if you have never been asked doesn't mean anything. These are the existing rules, the airline can ask for proof of onward travel or they won't let you board the flight

Then you need your passport and your boarding pass at the passport control to enter Thailand.

Things they can ask for but usually do not:

1) Proof of 20,000 baht or equivalent in another major currency, IN CASH ONLY

2) Proof of onward travel (a plane ticket out of Thailand within 60 days)

3) Proof of lodging (a few nights of hotel stay after your arrival)

You need to be more clear about what you are asking.

Are you asking about applying for a Tourist visa from a Thai embassy?

Are you asking about Visa Exempt, which is where you arrive to Thailand without a visa?

What nationality are you?

did you cross the border illegally?

@Bruce *****
you get visa exempt on arrival. You don’t need a visa. Just rock up and get stamped in for 60 days. You can extend for a further 30 days at a local immigration centre. They have one in most main cities / tourist destinations.

since July 15th this year along with 92 other countries

thanks. Good to know. I’m on a retirement visa so I didn’t know but have friends who visit regularly.

it’s a definite yes. I recently visited and can confirm.

I don't think the MFA ever updated the graphic. It's just the easiest way to show the new list of countries
