FYI all. I applied for my Retirement Visa extension yesterday and had to return in the afternnon and bring back an older bank book that showed where the 800,000 baht came from. I have 2 accounts, one for the Retirement Visa and another for day to day expeneses. I had transferred the money from one account to another. Even though the 800,000 baht needs seasoning of only 2 months, the funds transferred must appear over the past 12 month period in your bank statements. This was Jomtiem. I hope this is not confusing.

TLDR : Answer Summary
An expat shared their experience applying for a Retirement Visa extension in Thailand, emphasizing that they needed to present an older bank book to demonstrate the source of their 800,000 baht. They explained that while the funds only require a seasoning period of 2 months, they must be shown as transferred over the past 12 months in bank statements. A commenter provided a clarification about maintaining the necessary balance for those renewing their yearly extension.

If you were getting a new yearly extension (as in you were ON a yearly extension already and getting another one) and last year you used banked money, you would have needed to show that the 800K baht was in the account for 3 months after the extension you got last year and then the balance never went below 400K baht the rest of the year until it was back up to 800K baht 2 months before you applied for the next extension.

Were you already ON an yearly extension and just "renewing" it?

Already on an extension and renewing it. The confusion was I had a new account/bank book with 800K in it for the seasoning but it did not show where the money came. They wanted to see where the 800K was originated from which was from another account that received the money via wire transfer and then transferred into the new account upon opening. The 3 month 800 k baht post seasoning did not come up but I was covered in case it did. Having 2 bank accounts caused the confusion.

there is no requirement to show proof of funds origin when getting a yearly extension ๐Ÿ˜• It could have been transferred in domestically and that would have been fine. It's the seasoning after last years extension and the 2 months needed before this extension which most offices look for

Todd, in Jomtien do you have to show up 3 months after the post seasoning or just have them check at the following renewal in 12 months? I don't queue up and go inside the immigration office when I do my 90 days. Want to avoid that whenever possible.

they usually give you a paper when you get your year extension that says come back in 3 months with the updated bank book BUT hardly anyone does that. If they didn't give you the paper, don't even worry about it (I mean still keep the funds there for the 3 months after but don't worry about showing them you did it)

Usually most offices have you get a year transaction detail print out so they can make sure you kept the seasoning from the previous year AND followed it thru until this current extension
