What documentation do I need for Chiang Rai immigration when staying in a local guesthouse?

Hi all,

Quick question. I am staying in a guesthouse in Chiang Rai that is for locals (not foreign tourists), and the owner doesn't know about the TM30. Last month in Chiang Mai, the hotel knew exactly what to do and gave us a photocopy, even though we only stayed there 1 night. Chiang Rai may be different.

What will suffice for Chiang Rai immigration - anyone know? The owner said he can give me a receipt of the bill. It is a kind of guesthouse but I just stay here month-to-month, and there is no contract.

Thanks ๐Ÿ™

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking advice on what documentation is required for Chiang Rai immigration, particularly due to staying in a local guesthouse where the owner is unfamiliar with the TM30 registration process. They question if a receipt of their bill will be sufficient for immigration purposes.

If you don't register in CM, then go back to CR, no one will know you have been away...

Are you staying in Chiang Rai, and use their immigration office? What will you do at Chiang Rai immigration?

You can do it but you would need her house book and a power of attorney.

Yes, I stay in Chiang Rai, and will be for the next month at least. My Covid extension expires on December 30th. I visited immigration today to pick up the forms, and they will grant me 60 days, but you need to come back to close the loop 14 days after submission.

My advice would be to get the owner of the guest house to understand the TM30, and to get one submitted. I do *NOT* believe it's possible to self file a TM30. Have your landlady watch this video from the Thai government:

Hrm. This lady's a bit 'funny' with these things. Perhaps I should just pay to stay in a cheap hotel for 1 night and ask them to do it for me?

I'm not going to say you should get a cheap hotel room and have them file the TM30 for you, because that'll be unethical since everyone should always have a TM30 on file... IF the immigration office requires the TM30.

My advice would be to post this question on a Chang Rai group and see what their requirements are for a 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19. Most immigration offices do require the TM30, but some don't.

ok, I'll give that a try. I didn't see how that would be unethical, if I genuinely book a room and sleep there on the day I go to immigration - this seems perfectly ok to me. The landlady here doesn't speak English, so it's tricky.
