What can I provide as proof of income for my Workcation DTV application if I don't have a tax return yet?

I will be applying in London for the Workcation DTV in in Feb time and I am aware they might ask for self assessment tax proof. I will not have any proof because I will be applying in February and I can only file my self assessment in April. My freelance work started in May 2025 so I do not have a completed tax return yet.

Do you have any suggestions for what I should provide if they ask for this?

TLDR : Answer Summary
In your situation, where you are applying for the Workcation DTV in February but won't have a completed tax return until April, you can consider providing alternative documentation to demonstrate your income. One suggestion is to present your unique taxpayer reference number from HMRC, which might be accepted as proof of your self-assessment status. Additionally, you can supply contracts for your freelance work, highlight relevant transactions on your bank statements that show your income, and perhaps provide a cover letter explaining your circumstances. Including a CV or portfolio that outlines your work can further strengthen your application.

I emailed them and showed them my unique tax payer reference number from HMRC which you can get posted to you now for your self assessment. They didn’t ask for anything else yet. Have asked me for my E Ticket for my flight to Thailand now, asked me to give them enough time to process the DTV and asked for a consent letter that I won’t leave UK until my DTV is approved. Hopefully I’m in the final stage and I get approved soon

It's either tax returns or proof of income, I don't think you have to do both necessarily.

So essentially any contracts or highlight your work related income on your bank statement and explain it in a cover letter. Add a cv or portfolio of the nature of your work maybe.
