What should I do if I have no tax return to provide for my DTV application as an online worker?

Mar 26, 2025
Hello everyone

I applied for the DTV as an online worker on Preply. I'm being asked for additional documents, including my most recent tax return. It turns out I don't have this document, and my income from last year isn't significant because I started my online job a few months ago. What can I do please?

Thanks in advance for your answers.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user has applied for a Digital Nomad Visa (DTV) in Thailand as an online tutor but is struggling to provide a recent tax return, as they have not been working long enough to file one. The community provides various suggestions, including obtaining a tax return from the IRS if in the USA, and mentions that the visa application might not have strict income requirements. Others express similar interests in applying for the DTV and seek to connect with the original poster to share experiences and documentation submitted.

Hi! Following this thread because I will be applying for the DTV as an online Preply teacher too. I'd love to know what documents you submitted since it's not a standard employment contract. If you're open to helping a gal out, I'd love to connect privately to understand how you went about it!

How did you get on with the application in the end and what documents did you provide? Following with interest as I am planning to apply based on being a freelance online tutor

I did remote worker and it was so easy. Give them the bare minimal information but direct and on point to there request and you will fly through. Don’t overcomplicate it.

They are just there to process and tick the boxes.

the risk about soft power is that when you come back to thailand you need to show them that you register again to muay thai / ... lessons

That not everybody is questioned, does not mean nobody is questioned, and with the heavy abuse of DTV you can predict more checks.

yes, a lot of people go without interrogation or problem, we speak about maybe less than 5%. Just read the people who get interrogated to understand what about immigration is looking up.

some things trigger immigration ( just read what people get interrogation report here )

1/ you use a agent visa to get the dtv visa

2/ you apply not in your home country

3/ you need to get explaination what you will do in thailand ( if softpower you do each time no problem ... if you get a 1 time muathai.. you will not have a lot to say to that question related to the visa )

Just read what people say of the interrogation by immigration.

Of course, you can also go in without interrogation, or can provide enough good/valid response to go in.

For now nobody get refused to go back in, but there will be case, for sure.

No income requirements for the visa. Just show something

Just meet the savings requirements.

So you are saying you've never filed a tax return? It is asking for your most recent, not specifically last year's.
