What can I do if I am allegedly blacklisted from obtaining a tourist visa for Thailand?

Hi guys,

So I was working in Bangkok for a while until I left my last job. After the work permit and visa expired, I went to Laos and got a tourist visa. It was all smooth, I got the visa and got an extension. Came back to China before visa expired, and definitely did not do anything illegal in Thailand. I was applying for TR visa again in China via an agency, but was told my name was blacklisted? Therefore my tourist visa was rejected. This doesn't make sense. Can anyone suggest what to do with this?

TIA

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user shares their distressing experience after applying for a Thai tourist visa from China through an agency, only to be told they are blacklisted. They previously held a tourist visa after working in Thailand but are confused by the rejection. Community members suggest contacting the Thai consulate for clarification, express skepticism about the agency's claims, and discuss the possibility of overturning a blacklist status. There's a consensus that the situation is complex and recommend obtaining one's passport back to check for any official blacklisting stamps before taking further action.

I'm gonna turn off commenting to this for now.

I can't see much more constructive stuff that can be added by people UNTIL they get their passport back and see what's what.
@Ting ***
, once you get your passport back, send me a P/M and I'll turn the commenting back on so you can let us all know what is actually going on.

Best to contact the consulate yourself and find out the truth before deciding what to do Ting, as Todd advised.

My 2 satangs worth. Odds are the agency F**ked up. This was a face savings exercise you are not blacklisted, plus they kept your money.

And she said my status of being blacklisted is in the system already..

Well i would know after I get my passport back, we will see. If thats the case, then its not the end of the world YET
Jason *******
Could be!

I almost said that too :O ;)
Tod *********
That doesn't quite ring true to my ears.. :/

After the "agency" told you you were blacklisted, did you go talk to the thai consulate yourself?

OK. But i dont think the lady was shitting me, she could as well be but this is China not Thailand. It is still a bit more regulated than Thailand, and people know what they are doing especially with visa matters.. I mean I don't want to have false hopes. But fine.. *crying* I will wait.. and see..
Jason *******
Ting, chill out until you know the truth, if you have been blacklisted, it will be stamped on your passport ''Persona Non Grata'' only when you know if this is true, can you then attempt to resolve the problem!
Tod *********
@Ting ***
You have NO idea what's really going on. How about you wait until you get your passport back before you start tryin' to solve a problem which might or might not actually exist?

Do you think i can overturn the status of being blacklisted while I'm here? Or I just have to bribe? :(
Jason *******
There's always Cambodia, Ting! Very welcoming :)

@Ting ***
How about you wait to see what if anything is in your current passport. In the past getting a new passport was an effective way to get around the "too many tourist visas" problem. BUT I think it's not gonna work forever,

Plus if on the rare change you are really blacklisted changing passports isn't gonna help you get into the country even if you manage to get a tourist visa. When you stamp in at the entry points they're all connected now to the data base that searches by name, surname, nationality, DOB, sex, etc. Changing passports isn't a work around to that.

@Jason ******
ok NOOOOOOO

If you can change you name and birthdate for a new passport, that would be the only way :)

New passport would not help, sadly.

, worst case scenario, do you think I can just get a new passport to get away with things i did not fucking do?

will keep you posted once I see my passport hopefully on Saturday.

@Ti**
, well once you get your passport back from the agency, look and see if they did issue the tourist visa, then voided it, OR if they just didn't do anything in your passport.

Then report back, because until you see what if anything is stamped in your passport you're just guessing like we are as to why this happened.

The agency lady said i may have a chance of being rejected if getting visa upon arrival. Plus if I get visa upon arrival, i would have to find another way to stay longer, which basically means i have to spend some hard cash. Thailand hurts me so much when they never really welcomed me :(
Tod *********
In theory
@Ting ***
, there is no limit to the number of tourist visa a person can get. Those limits are imposed by the individual Thai consulates.

BUT, you're chinese right? So if you enter thailand without a tourist visa you BUY a 15 day visa on arrival for 100baht (reduced from 2000baht until August 31st, 2017)..

IF you are holding a chinese passport there is another promotion that lets 21 countries (China being one) get a single entry tourist visa for FREE until August 31st, 2017

@Jason ******
Yeah.. but that was only my second TR visa.. *crying*
Jason *******
No things have changed Ting, they are trying to eliminate people staying in thailand year round on tourist visa's
Ting ****

@Tod ********
So that would be my second TR visa if i was to get this one, which is ok? I see people do visa runs all year round, or its just different towards Chinese nationals?
Tod *********
@Ja***
, on that you're 100% correct (y)

there is a BIG discrepancy between how things are supposed to work and how things really work here. :/ :(
Tod *********
@Ting ***
the thing is you'd already pulled a tourist visa before from another consulate AFTER you'd left your job..
Jason *******
@Tod ********
I understand what the official process is the problem is always what happens unofficially, if you know what i mean! :) Cheers

I guess depending on one's nationality? In my case, it just does not make any fucking sense coz I did no wrongs. She said they rejected my visa because I was blacklisted..
Ryan *********
The agency said your "visa was rejected"? Not sure on that, embassies & consulates would issue the visa anyhow, right?
Tod *********
@Ja***
, please know I meant no disrespect, :)

I too have experience in dealing with the blacklisting process and the appeals process in overturning spurious blacklistingz ;) .

It's It's not just an employer files a complaint and you get blacklisted without knowing about it. :/
Ting ****

@Tod ********
Yes I did, my employers actually gave me a month's grace period. I vividly remember getting back my passport after they took it to the immigration to cancel it. It was all done.
Jason *******
Oh really Todd, i guess my 32 years in Thailand, the knowledge I have gained and the contacts i've made are all for nothing! thanks for letting me know :) Things I have seen, experienced must have been pure imagination!
Tod *********
One more thing, IF you were blacklisted and think it was because someone was being vindictive against you or blacklisted you under false pretenses, there is a clearly spelled out appeals process to get it reviewed and overturned..
Ting ****
ORIGINAL POSTER
Im just overall shocked, what the fuck? i didnt do anything!!!
Tod *********
When you left your job
@Ting ***
, did you cancel your work permit, take the receipt of cancellation to the immigration office, cancel your extension, buy a 7 day get outta thailand stamp and leave. OR did you just bail out?
Tod *********
@Jason ******
an emplolyer CAN'T get an employee blacklisted. There is a defined process about it.
Ting ****
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Jason ******
I was suspecting that, because yeah you know..
Jason *******
i would guess that your last employer made a complaint to immigration, that would get you on the blacklist Ting! You can get off the blacklist Ting but it takes money to the right person! Otherwise you can stay on the blacklist anything for 2 years (usual) up to 10 years.

@Tod ********
Im gonna have to pay a visit to Thai consulate. Do you think getting a new passport would change the situation?
Tod *********
@Ti**
, ALL the thai consulates are tightening up on the issuing of tourist visas. I highly doubt the agency knows WHEN you were blacklisted (if you even were).. She's just spouting nonsense about your application damaging her companies reputation. If she's a real agency she pushes a LOT of paper at the consulate and one denial isn't gonna hurt that..
Ting ****

@Ryan ********
as sketchy as it sounds, thats what people do in China. They often rely on the agencies to do their visas, coz it saves lots of time and energy by appointing an agency to do it.
Ryan *********
Sounds sketchy.

I did my visa several times with those agencies, all no problem until this time. The lady said i was probably blacklisted before this. And she said my case damaged her company's reputation therefore no Refund, this is whatever, i dont care..
Tod *********
@Ti**
, If I had to guess I'd believe THAT was the problem. :O
Ting ****

would have to provide some documentation, i was lazy so just paid an agency to do it, which is very popular in china, which is what ppl do most of the time.
