So I have a few questions.... I am wanting to relocate to Thailand specifically one of the main cities of bangkok, phuket, pattaya,or Chiang mai. Now let me get a few things out of the way. I do an online business that I can make roughly 1000-2000 USD a month. I am also saving 10-15k USD before I embark potentially november. Ok

So what is the best way to stay for a year? Which visa should I go for? I am not sure if I want to work and know I won't right away and will have money for a bit. Possibly have enough money for the whole year with my online business..... so how do I stay legally??

60 days and do visa runs??

Ed visa and learn hand to hand combat or muay thai

Ed visa in culinary art

??? Any other ideas or pointers??? Thank you

I am a USA citizen in the USA with a passport.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user, a USA citizen planning to relocate to Thailand with an income of $1000-2000 from an online business, seeks advice on staying legally for a year. Suggestions include obtaining a Multiple Entry Tourist Visa (METV), which allows for extended stays through visa runs. Other potential options discussed are education (ED) visas for studying Muay Thai or culinary arts, but these are viewed as less suitable for someone not intending to study seriously. Users advise discretion regarding online work and suggest securing a METV from a Thai consulate in the USA before traveling.

To be and work inside Thailand even On Line working your need the work permit and Non Immigrant B, sorry that is the way it is.

To be inside Thailand and enjoy your time, as you described about one year the best way to start is as mentioned the METV.

I can not tell which way is best, you have to decide that yourself.

To keep this open for stories that people got arrested or not, you all know this page is not for those discussions.

Broadcasting your intentions over social media is one strategy. Anyone can read. Stay legal.

Then there is always something like Igloo that will issue a WP for your digital nomad company but they do make you pay a percentage...

Back to back METV’s you can get a total of 18 months out of them (9 months x 2) with proper visa runs and extensions...all you have to do is qualify for them...FYI you can apply for the second one in Melbourne Australia if you don’t want to travel back to the USA...

Get a 6 month METV <- multi-entry tourist visa from a thai consulate in YOUR country before you wing your way here.

Come here, keep your mouth shut and your head down (meaning don't be blabbing to every Tom Dick and Somchai as far as what you're doing). Loose lips sink ships..

That will give you almost 9 months to figure out what other long term visa option you want to do.

Here's my advice (Assuming you're from the USA/ UK/ AUS, and other countries that allow visa exempt):

>I do an online business that I can make roughly 1000-2000 USD a month.

Legally, there's no "online work visa" in Thailand. You CAN work online, but keep it quiet, and know you'll be breaking the law.

>So what is the best way to stay for a year?

None; you can get a multiple entry tourist visa. If it's used correctly, you'd be able to get 9 months off of it, and you can do "border bounces" by land that are good for 30 days each, that can be extended by another 30 days. You can do two border bounces each calendar year.

>Ed visa and [...]

Ed visas are great, if you're studying. They are not great if you want to goof off. They aren't goof off, long term tourist visas.

>Possibly have enough money for the whole year with my online business..... so how do I stay legally

Again, working online is not legal, but you'll be fine as long as you don't brag about it.

So, where are you from, and what consulate are you planning on using to get your visas?
