What are the long-term visa options for staying in Thailand after a tourist visa?

Hi guys, thanks to the help and advice from this wonderful group we arrived to Thailand hassle free on the 60 days tourist visa. We are loving it so much, we’re thinking we want to stay longer. Any advice please on long term visa options. I’d love to work here but think I’d need sponsorship from a thai employer, how about if I was self employed? Probably it’s a long shot being able to stay longer than 60+30 days.

We are planning to visit Vietnam after Thailand and thinking is it possible to re- enter on the tourist visa option again?

Any advice, greatly appreciated 🙏🏼

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user shares their enjoyable experience in Thailand on a 60-day tourist visa and inquires about long-term visa options. Responses mention the absence of a specific visa for self-employed individuals, the need for employment sponsorship from a Thai employer to work legally, and alternative options like the education visa. There are discussions about potentially converting an Elite visa into a work visa and the growing acceptance of Digital Nomads. The user also contemplates leaving Thailand and re-entering on a tourist visa and receives advice on the feasibility of this approach.

Thanks all. Is leaving for a month and coming back in going to work and still receive the 60+30?

if you get a visa from the Thai Embassy then yes. If you do it often then you may get asked questions at some point if they suspect you're living in Thailand on tourist visas.

so before leaving for the month apply for a new visa in person? Sorry if I didn’t interpret what you’re saying right!

yes at the embassy or turn up ay the airport and do a visa exemption. The arousing suspicion would only happen if you do that repeatedly over a period of time.

I read in the Bangkok Post people can convert Elite visa into work visa. For the life of me, I couldn't figure out why a person would want to do that.. But I think its a thing now.

It seems Thailand is become more open to the idea of Digital Nomads -- If they want to invest 1,000,000USD

education visa is the most common way to extend your stay. you enroll in a Thai language school, pay them, and they help you with the visa

There's no visa for the self-employed so you'd still be stuck on a tourist visa if you don't meet the requirements of any of the non-immigrant visas.

To work you would be required to be employed by a Thailand based employer, yes. I don't know what you do for work but there are jobs here which foreigners aren't allowed to do:

I believe that list is up to date but I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.
