ORIGINAL POSTER
Is the elite visa the best option for the 50 year old parent of a thai child.I work 6 weeks in Europe and visit Thailand the next six weeks in rotation.

I’m aware of other visas but I’m assuming I’m going to need a lot of re entry permits? Would this be a problem?

I’ve asked the same question in the elite visa forum but nobody’s commented on other options.

Any helpful advice or suggestions welcome.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around whether the elite visa is the best choice for a 50-year-old parent of a Thai child who splits their time between Europe and Thailand. Participants suggest exploring alternatives like the Non-O (retirement) visa with multiple entry options, the Long-term Residency (LTR) visa, and the costs associated with re-entry permits. Key points include comparing the expenses between obtaining an elite visa versus cheaper options such as yearly extensions and permits. Overall, multiple visa options exist that cater to various needs and circumstances.

1.For the elite visa is the long-stay tourist visa and Multiple entry Visa is no need the re-entry permit. There are start at 5 yrs to 20yrs max. Easy Apply , no need to show financial statement. Its maximum long stay visa.

2.The LTR visa is 10yrs but need to check your qualify and show financial statement. Alot of paperwork.

3.The retirement visa Non O-A 1yrs

And O-x 5yrs need to show financial statement and health insurance needed.Alot of paperwork.

I used to work a 3x3 rota, no issues coming and going. The only issue I see is if they go back to 30 day rule instead of the 45.

Yearly extention 1900bt, yearly multi re-entry permit 3800bt, 5700bt per year or 600,000bt for the Elite. Choice is yours!

I'm not 100% sure but can't you get a visa as a parent of your thai child and a multi entry visa

There is the option of a yearly (multiple) re-entry permit. Probably much cheaper than wasting money on Elite. You can combine the former with your regular yearly extension of Non-Immigrant visa based on Thai child. 5,000 baht vs. 600,000 baht.

LTR is the your best bet if you qualify. If no, Elite is an excellent (albeit expensive) option

imagine being the father to a thai kid and having to shell out 20.000$ to raise it.
