if i'm getting the work permit tomorrow........surely i must have a visa to obtain it.

As said by others: normally BEFORE you can get a Work Permit you get a B Visa 90 days, or you have an O visa based on Marriage or Extension from the O visa. Are you saying you do not have a visa now and didn't have a B or O visa before getting the Work Permit?

Darren Low . A MONTH!!! Haha!
I guess he’s never been to Thailand!!!

Companies (ie Not schools) should have no issue paying as they are likely paying you several hundred thousand a month. Teaching jobs on the other hand, especially if just some small local school paying low rates probably don't want the extra cost of visas.
That would be my guess anyway.

‘Should’ doesn’t mean they will. Mine never have in the last 6 years despite my discussions about it.

companies are under no obligation to pay a single satang for the work permit, the initial Non-Immigrant visa or the subsequent extensions of stays. :/ Some do but the requirement is only they provide the documentation so you can apply for them.

You can stay 1 year longer in Thailand, if you want to travel you need a re-entry permit, 1.000 Thb for single or 3.800 Thb for multiple re-entry.
