Hello All 🧡🧡🧡

I have a non-B visa (Teaching English & US Passport)

My husband has a non-O (based on marriage to me US Passport)

I have not received my work permit yet

I will need to do my first extension in April

Is the work permit required to do the extension?

Is the extension for the non-B and non-O 1900 baht per person in Chiang Mai?

Thank you in advance and thank you all again for your assistance with getting these new visas🧡🧡🧡

TLDR : Answer Summary
The person has a non-B visa for teaching and has not yet received their work permit. They are looking to extend their stay in Thailand but are uncertain if the work permit is necessary for the visa extension process. The comments indicate that a work permit is required for the extension and a fee of 1,900 baht applies to both non-B and non-O visas in Chiang Mai.

"In training"? That's highly unusual, but as long as you aren't physically in the classroom teaching, I suppose it's legal.

This is not good. Considering a Non-B visa is only good for 3 months, and you need an extension by April, it means you probably got the Non-B sometime this month. So, I think you probably were hired at a government school (probably through an agent), in October, correct?

I *WOULD NOT* assume you'd get a new contract. Processing a work permit does require paperwork, and when a teacher is brought on in October, the school expects them to simply fill in the time until a new, better batch of teachers are hired.

Here's my advice.

1. You're working illegally. Stop work until you get that work permit.

2. I am virtually certain you will not get a work permit. You can:

a. Continue working illegally but keep quiet and have a plan B if/when your school get raided

b. Leave the school. You are on the original visas, so there is no risk of you getting thrown out of Thailand *IF YOU ARE NOT WORKING*

3. Do *NOT* assume you'll get rehired or a new contract, if you were, they wouldn't have waited until February until your Non-B was issued.

I am concerned ...

When did you first get your NonB? And I assume you are now working/teaching without a work permit?

Why the delay? Are you on some kind of probation?

Be careful...some agencies promise work permits but never deliver.

You will need WP for both of your extension. And a bunch of paperwork for extension for both of you from your employer. Talk with your employer as soon as possible. You cannot work legally without WP.

Fee is 1,900THB for each.
