We are in the process of setting up a company, but the figures and steps being put forward are varying in terms of monthly tax rates and visa extension costs. Does anyone have the official setup costs?

So far the costs are coming back as

18k and 30k for company registration

23k for work permit

25k for 12 month visa after 3 months

2k / month on tax

Nothing on 90 day extensions

TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation discusses various costs associated with setting up a company in Thailand, including company registration (ranging from 18k to 30k Baht), work permits (around 23k Baht), and a 12-month visa extension after the initial 3 months (approximately 25k Baht). Several commenters highlight that costs may vary based on the location and the agencies used for assistance, emphasizing the need to check official government resources for accurate figures. There are also discussions about handling processes independently to save on costs, though it may require significant time investment.

Ian, I am also in the process to setting up a company in Thailand.

I have lived here since 2011 and on and off from 2006.

I have made my research and set my connections, it is worth for me to set up a Ltd Cie.

I have a good friend for long years who can help you and guide you with from what I read better rates.

If you like to talk about it, we can meet, it will be easier to tell you clearly and properly face to face.

Let me know if you are interested.

My friend is not Thai but has lived here most of his life, and has his business here or a few businesses, and helps others when they need a little help.

My arrangement with my Accountant she sends me the rate and amount for these taxes (Social Security and Witholding) I have the prefilled forms in the computer - I print them out and go pay them myself.

Thanks Joe!

You may end up having shadow employees. The social security taxes for 4 Thai Employees is close to 4k a month. Plus income tax withholding for the 4 employees is about 1k each month and for the foreigner share holder / director anywhere from 500 to 1k a month depending on age.

Then Lloyd - you have a superior accountant

@Joe **********
then no income tax liability, way too low to pay tax.

@Lloyd *******
No they had a salary of 9240 each month each employee
Joe ***********
Mandatory salary for a Thai Employee Jan - March, 2018 = 9240 Baht each month... will rise to 9600 Baht each employee each month.
Lloyd ********
@Joe **********
they had a salary of 25,250 a month ?
Joe ***********
In the year 2560 / 2017 I paid 2700 baht a quarter for the 4 employees withholding taxes total.

Great info guys!

It has to do with the rate of tax applied to a foreigner who is share holder / Director of a Thai Registered Company with Registered Capital Valuation of 4 million Baht - in my case. Such a shareholder / Director pays taxes on a mandatory monthly salary of 50k baht - whether I pay that amount to myself or not. I watched my very smart and sharp accountant go to a published table of tax rates adjustable by age. In my case of my 'young' age (having visited Thailand first time 51 years ago as a soldier for a year 😁 ) - my rate of witholding tax for the imagined salary of 50k a month was a whopping 420 baht a month.... That's How.
Lloyd ********
@Joe **********
and the first 20k a month is tax free
Joe ***********
Not by my two different Accountants' calculations. Minimum salary for Thai employees will rise to just shy of 10k this month
Lloyd ********
Also, since when did age have anything to do with tax ?
Lloyd ********
Really ? 4 x 750 = 3k and if their salary is below 20k a month each, they are not liable for any income tax. Even if they were on 30k a month, income tax would only be 500 each.

Your Work Permit and one year Extension of the B Visa estimates are way too high.

Combined - 90 day B Visa / Work Permit and One Year B Visa Extension should not cost more than 23k total for all. This includes Account's preparation of all company documents. But you do have to pay taxes for the time leading up to the Extension- but it is not a bank account buster - however a bit complicated to go into here

Are you using lawyer or accounting firm? Thing is there’s many lawyer firms having their own accounting firms as well thus the high charges etc.

Checking prices with a few places. Average costs are posted above.
Peter ********
Prices look inline with what I paid a year or so ago. Yes, work permits and visa could be done yourself. I used agents and glad I did, small price (wish it were smaller though!) to pay for a simpler life
Peter ********
Yes, the lawyer will create and register the company. They can also provide visa and work permit services. The accountant is required to do monthly tax and social security filings etc. I believe this may be something it’s possible to do by yourself but I’ve opted for the easier option
Ian **********
ORIGINAL POSTER
Yes. The lawyer and accountant is needed.
Barbara *******
@Peter *******
I understand that. But still you need a lawyer or an accountant to set you up witg work permits right?
Peter ********
Only way I’m aware of is to setup your own company as per the original post.
Barbara *******
Sorry to ask but I'm new to this. How can you arrange work permit yourself? What are the steps?
Ian **********
ORIGINAL POSTER
Definitely. Thanks Peter
Robert *******
IF you are happy that all the work and copy making is done for you at these prices, than all are happy. If you want to save money, work permit and the 12 month Extension of Stay could be done by yourself. But in that case you need to do a lot yourself and invest time.
Henri ******
That's pretty obvious, and not advice as such.
Ian **********
ORIGINAL POSTER
thanks all, i understand prices can vary with agents etc, it was more about checking the costs per each of the items being reasonable.
Lloyd ********
There are the costs that the government charges you and then on top, the cost that The people seeking it all up charge you. There is no official charge, each company will charge what it wants and can.
Alan *********
Ian I've heard that prices and costs vary depending on where you are setting up. I could be wrong but worth checking into.
Lloyd ********
No problem :-)
Alan *********
@Lloyd *******
apologies

@Alan ********
we prefer no pm, as advice is for all, and possibly needs correcting
Alan *********
Can you pm me?

the official

costs are on the website of the government - these are doing costs incl. gov fees - extension if you fulfil the requirements (4 employee under sso, capital etc) - 2k is monthly accounting ... not included yearly accounting and check balance
