Hi there. I have a non B 3 month single entry visa and am now applying for work permit. My lawyer said my WP3 from ministry of labour has 'expired' as it has only 1 months validity. The Department of Labour fee to issue a new one is nearly 9,000 baht. Can anyone confirm this is the charge from DOL? I have tried to find out from their site but no joy. Thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking confirmation about the fee for a new WP3 work permit, claiming their lawyer says it costs 9,000 baht due to an expired document. However, multiple comments indicate that the standard charge for a work permit in Thailand is around 3,000 baht. Others advise against using a lawyer for this process, suggesting it can be completed independently at a lower cost. Some users emphasize the importance of renewing permits on time to avoid additional daily fees.

Cost of work permit is only around 3000 baht

If ur work permit expired...they charge 500 baht a day.. from the date of expiry to the date u apply for renewal .. u should renew the work permit at least 2 months before the expiry date..

Than I'm extremely lucky. Had work permit, went back home country for short time, but became 1,5 year due to circumstances. Went back Thailand, applied for new Work Permit, handed over my 16 months expired work permit without fines.

You dont need a lawyer for anything else then going to court. This is another Olympic size ripoff. Been living in Thailand for a decade. Own 2 companies. NEVER used a lawyer for anything. WP you can do yourself. Just take your labour contract pasport and whatever else you have to the labor office. Get the papers that your employer need to fill out and sign. Pictures and pay 3000thb for a 1 year WP

I know but i meanth for the conversations at the labor office.

Of all documents the WP is the easiest. If you gonna work here yoy should get the hang of it ans save a lot of headache. From the secnd year onward you can get 2 years WP at 6000 thb. The lawyer thieves won't tell you that either.

Thank you. I am employing myself.... The forms are all in english and Thai anyway.

Just find yourself a Thai friend who wants to translate if you dont speak Thai.... pay for dinner and drinks and make more friends while doing so.

So you have a valid Non B visa and your laywer is trying to tell you that he want to apply for a work permit using form 3, foreigner not inside Thailand. He need to use WP1 application form, foreigner inside Thailand and holding a valid visa. Fees of 9000 Thb is inclusive the salary of the expensive lawyer. Go to MOL and do it yourself.

Robert Lagas I have looked at all the forms etc etc. I am employing myself. Its not that hard but its time intensive. I don't mind paying them to do the the work I just don't want to be charged twice. Second year I will probably do it all myself as I will understand the process and ideally have more time. Cheers

My advice: Go to MOL, ask to apply for WP, show your passport and you will get a checklist with copies needed. Go back to employer and sit down next to a copy machine. Copy and check the list one by one, go back and apply. It is not that hard.

Thanks Robert. I was reading up about this and I thought that I could obtain the WP from within Thailand now I have the non b. To be fair they have been excellent lawyers, not the cheapest, but very thorough. I have used them for a few years. But until now I have not been working so I have no experience of WP fees etc.

Remember you're in Thailand so, tread carefully on calling them on it. They won't want to lose face. Do it with a smile.

@Len ****************
Yes naturally. But they have already done this and have charged me once. This time they said it was the DOL fee so Im going to call them on it.
Len *****************
that's the actual fees and doing everything by yourself with correct papers... doing it with a lawyer or any agency, might have different price...(service fees) for their "work" in processing your permit... (possibly)

Yes I looked there but couldn't find the fees

I am pretty sure my WP was only 3000 baht for a year (first year). It was written right in the WP but...I don't have it anymore. Seems fishy.

That post is 2015.... 3000 for 12 month permit. So, you're getting ripped off. Get your documents back and find a new lawyer. Recommend

it only expired because I had to get a new passport.

We'd charge 2k I think it is for TT3, but we'd be a little pissed off too (quietly of course) 🤣
Narelle ************

@Tony *******
Right ok that helps. You would die if I told you the overall charge. This is just the charge to get a new TT3. What about TT1 as suggested? Know anything about that?
Tony ********
Hi, yes it seems high if it's just the TT3 and not the full WP. It's correct that the TT3 expires within a month and then the whole process needs to be started again, which is basically ALL the work.
Sa *******
@Tony *******
do you have info???
Narelle ************
ORIGINAL POSTER
yes but I can't verify it anywhere. most annoying. I assume i can't do this application myself either
Nadine ********
Dunno if that's the fee.....seems pretty bloody high to me....but you never know. It's true though that it expires after a certain amount if time! X
