Hello everyone, I hope you are all well. My 30 day visa extension on a 60 day tourist visa expires on March 12. I plan on flying out somewhere close for a couple of days and then coming back in with a Visa exempt. Do I need an onward flight ticket out of Thailand before the 30 day visa exempt expires? I plan on getting a visa extension on that and then heading back home to France on April 29 (I have this ticket already).
Thanks for the great advice! (I’ll be getting a Non O in France in June and then returning to Thailand at the end of July to stay…retirement visa, 800k, etc etc etc 😊).

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is inquiring whether they'll need to show an onward flight ticket when re-entering Thailand on a visa exempt status after a short trip. The community responses highlight that airlines often require proof of onward travel, but immigration may not always ask for it. They suggest options like purchasing a cheap bus ticket instead, indicating variability in enforcement based on circumstances.

Oh, thanks. So upon returning to Thailand from Laos, airport customs personnel will not care whether I have an onward ticket to fly out of the Thailand or a simple bus ticket to cross the border?
When I flew to Vietnam the airline wanted to see a ticket out of Vietnam but when I flew back to Thailand they never asked but that could be just luck of the draw
Your carrier and Immigration may want to see onward travel within 30 days. Impossible to know whether you'll be asked to show it but technically it is a requirement.
You need to ask your airline, they're the ones who will ask you for proof of onward travel. Many airlines in SE Asia will ask you to see proof of leaving Thailand within 30 days if you fly without a visa.
