What documents are required to extend a DTV stay at the Samut Prakan Immigration Office in Thailand?

I have successfully extended my DTV stay for another six months at the Samut Prakan Immigration Office today. The staff there were incredibly friendly and helpful throughout the process. Since I couldnโ€™t find clear documentation requirements online, I sought advice directly from the receptionists (who, I must say, were very beautiful, kind and welcoming). Interestingly, they mentioned I was the first person to visit their office specifically for a DTV stay extension.

As a remote worker, my work contract was an *essential* document for the application. Additionally, I needed to submit financial proof, including:

* An updated bank book (passbook) on the same day of the visa extension

* A balance certification signed by the bank

* A bank statement showing the same balance as the certification

Accommodation documents were also required, such as:

* A copy of my rental agreement

* A TM30 form

Initially, I had prepared a bank statement generated two days prior to my visit. However, this didnโ€™t meet the requirements because the passbook needed to be updated on the same day as the visa extension. One thing to note is that although I had updated my passbook the night before my visit, the officer required it to be updated again on the day of the extension, even if no new transactions had occurred. The receptionist kindly explained this detail during my initial inquiry, but I decided to give it a try with what I had. As a result, I had to make an extra trip to the bankโ€™s ATM to update my passbook. Thankfully, everything else was in order. This requirement could be different if you are using a foreign bank as financial proof. In such cases, they might adjust the requirements slightly, or you may have no choice but to fly out and come back or do a border bounce.

Iโ€™m sharing this experience and the document requirements for anyone considering a DTV stay extension. Being well-prepared can save time and effort, and the staff at the immigration office are there to help. Overall, it was a smooth process once all the documentation was in place.

OK great.. Krabi and BKK / Samut Prakan..

Looks like its going to happen countrywide. All the nay sayers suggesting it wasnt going to happen proven to be Chicken Little'ing it on this one.

I was sure like they would be asking the docs. What i would like to know is: do they ask documents if you leave the country after 180 days and return back?

Can I extend my DTV at immigration in Samut Prakan although my home is in Bangkok?

If no, could I just get a TM30 from a hotel in Samut Prakan and then be fine?

Congratulations on your DTV Extension and Thank You Very Much for your report about successfully obtaining an Extension!

If you would be so kind, then please do update us whenever you exit and re-enter Thailand again within the next 6 months as curious to see how many days the Thai Immigration Officer will stamp you in for (a new 180 days or up until the end of this DTV Extension)....
Wannikea *********
@Dca ****
it would be another fresh 180 day stamp, the extension would be invalidated upon exit.

Thanks! Since DTV and ED Plus Extensions are Exempt from Re-Entry Permits, didn't quite fully understand how a DTV Extension fits together with a 5-Year Multiple Entry Visa....
Wannikea *********
@Dca ****
in this case as noted with the bottom stamp, the re-entry/multiple permit is tied to the visa, not the extension. Similar to METV.

Who cares what he thinks. Most people watch the videos for a laugh. As someone who so well connected and informed he is 100% wrong quire a bit. The amount of caveats he has to insert in a video is embarrassing for a lawyer - he sounds like a social Science Professor with them PS: The immigration DTV order regarding extensions went out on 13th January - how could this well informed and in the know lawyer have missed that?

more likely the tax advisors, he doesnโ€™t like expats working in restricted jobs, in fairness most Thais donโ€™t.

@Sweet ****
I am very derogatory about the so called Expat Tax Advisors who were selling dodgy financial products as Financial Advisors the day before the rule change. Dodgy fly by night snake oil salesmen. However, there are plenty of qualified international tax advisors working in Thailand who are foreign. Mazars and Vialto to name 2. Been around for years. Just like with any other industry and domain they act as "Consultants" - way around this. I worked with Foreign CFO and Finance Directors here - the Thai staff sign off legally but who do you think has final say?

if you listen to the video he was referring to it as currently, ie 3 days ago, it was looking (at that time) like it was not possible based on reports, these reports were that people were not getting extensions and were being asked to leave, now 3 days later it appears the immigration may now have thier act in order.

Great info. Your accommodation documents were much less onerous than those of the guy who extended in Krabi. Yours are exactly the same as those of other visa extensions, such as "O" and "B." This is good news for DTV holders.
Sweet *****
@Greg *******
he did his extension at Samut Prakan, one of the most expat friendly immigration offices in Thailand. Some expats believe it or not (including myself) have cited this as a reason for moving from Bangkok to Samut Prakan, the difference of the 2 provinces is just one more BTS stop.
Greg ********
@Sweet ****
It really does depend on which Immigration Office is used for various needs. Jomtien is fine for example for 90 Day reporting and O extensions etc. I am wondering how they will be for DTV extension though?
Sweet *****
@Greg *******
me too, we know Samut Prakan has been given the green light, so letโ€™s wait & see what the reports are for Bangkok, Chonburi, Chiang Mai, Phuket..
Greg ********
@Sweet ****
I am up in Chiang Mai right now house hunting. Immigration here is one item to consider. It is not main concern but unless I find perfect house will delay any move. I might go for BOI Smart S rather than DTV and looking at the EEC for Faciliatation. Means no need to change location for now.
Sweet *****
@Greg *******
well of course I would never suggest someone might move from one province to another simply to have an easier immigration office, particularly CM, I was referring to OP and Bangkok where you can literally walk from one province to another in a few minutes and still be in the same city.
Greg ********
@Sweet ****
My pals said I would get lost if I left the Lower Suk area. I said everything I need is between Soi 1 to Soi 39. Home, work, Bumrungrad and Emporium/Emquartier. Easy access for my driver to get to airport or company factories - those were the day. A poor retiree now
Sweet *****
@Greg *******
so your pals are basically telling you that you are a tourist, therefore you should only stick to the tourist areas ๐Ÿ˜
Greg ********
@Sweet ****
Is that what you get from that? You must be a newbie

really REALLY great you got that extension (y) congrats

You are the FIRST person I know of that has managed to get a DTV extension of stay

totally common to have to update the bank book the day you go to get the extension (all offices require that) the bank LETTER can be up to 7 days old though

They got their DTV based on the "remote worker" / "Work-cation" category NOT soft power.

They also banked the 500K baht in a thai bank account HERE not a foreign account.

your mileage may vary if you got your DTV for another reason and/or you bank your funds in your country

Again, well done, enjoy your extension ๐Ÿ™‚

Has anyone done a border bounce? I keep an eye on this group but can't recall seeing anyone posting about doing the border bounce for DTV extension.

@Rusty *****
people are not reporting on border bounce with DTV because it's TOO EASY! Literary the easiest way to reset the 180 day stamp.
Tod *********
@Rusty *****
they wouldn't get an extension by border bouncing, you'd get a NEW 180day entry stamp

AND

many hundreds of people have exited/re-entered the country on DTV's to get a new entry stamps
Marc **********
@Tod ********
hmm what is difference between an extension and a new 180 day stamp? I thought you just get another 180 days once you leave and come back in... and can do that often...... so I thought the office visit was instead of a border run... ??
Tod *********
@Marc *********
an extension you apply for, show documentation for and pay 1900baht for at the immigration office where you live inside the country.

AND

You can get ONE 180 day extension per entry (so you could stay 360 days without having to leave

a new entry stamp you get by exiting/re-entering the country

AND

You can get an unlimited number of those 180 day entry stamps for the 5 years the DTV is valid for

I only meant to point out the term "extend your visa" isn't what you do when you exit/reenter. you're not extending anything, your current entry stamp cancels when you exit the country and you get a NEW 180 day entry stamp when you come back in.
Marc **********
@Tod ********
I understand. Thanks. So one could leave on day 179 and arrive back quick and literally stay the entire year...and probably not need all that documentation mentioned.
Tod *********
@Marc *********
you can bounce out and back all you want on the visa and every entry gets a new 180 day entry stamp

It might depend on the mood of the Immigration Officer, they might be on probation and being watched. There might be a number that are pulled for a random check. It is not going to be everyone though. If I was on Workaytion and not planning a trip the extension in this post looked easy enough at that particular office. We have yet to see a Soft Power extension!!!
Greg ********
@Tuatini *******
Depends on how much time you have etc. The 1900 THB extension is also cheaper than a border run in most cases.
Steven *******
@Greg *******
1900b, peanuts
Greg ********
@Steven ******
It is the standard price of an extension. Border runs in a van cost over 3k in most places. Flying in and out will cost much more not including getting to airport etc. If extension is as straightforward as the OP here and you have no need or do not want to travel and extension is a good option. Still need to see a Soft Power extension though. That might cost more than border run if you need to prove ongoing activities
Steven *******
@Greg *******

Sweet *****
@Steven ******
many people are but it seems a lot are waiting, the full list of DTV pros & cons has not been completed yet. Non O holders donโ€™t need to rush into it, totally different for the visa dodgers who are constantly worried about their next bounce or visit.

I am doing same with DTV and BOI Smart "S". Reached out to a couple of organisations and arranging meetings. Then out of the blue today a contact on Linkedin (I did a course with him at Oxford Said Business School in Complex Project Management) announced his new job on the EEC as Director of Innovation. right you got 180 days ADDED to your current stamp expiration date ๐Ÿ™‚ the bottom date on the extension is the date you applied for it. ๐Ÿ˜‰
Tod *********
@Albert ********
there is no rule about it, you can apply for an extension when you have 30 days or less left on your current stamp <- meaning from a month before it runs out right down until the day it runs out

You don't lose any time applying early, the new extension is ADDED to the expiration date of your entry stamp
Albert *********

I understand, I would have done the same thing. However, thanks to your help, I now know I'd rather do a border bounce since I've expected the extension to be as easy as extending a tourist visa for 30 days. I did not expect they would ask all the DTV paperwork all over again.
