TLDR : Answer Summary
The original poster is seeking reliable information on the requirements for a retirement visa extension in Thailand, expressing confusion due to varying opinions they found during their research. Community members advise visiting the local immigration office to obtain the specific handout detailing requirements, as these can differ by location. Engaging directly with an immigration officer is recommended for clarifying any additional questions, emphasizing the inconsistency in information that can occur from volunteers.

Better still go and sit down with a IO after you studied the handout and ask all the questions. Dont ask a volunteer as you may get wtong answers. There are reports that they dont accept the combination method at that office, this may not be on the handout.

Ron van den Heever many thanks for the reply. A good piece of advice too. Fortunately I have a few months before I have to renew so a chat with the io is on the cards. Much appreciated

Sorry, I didn't say to get the hand out from your local office to be flippant.

It's just each office has it's own "version" of what's required that it's often times far easier just to get the list of what your office wants from them.

oh no problem. That was a genuine comment on my part. I really don't know why I didn't think of it myself. I've been greedily lapping up every bit on information I can find reference the new requirements and am very confused as there seems to be so many "experts" that contradict everything I have managed to find out. I genuinely don't know why I didn't think of going to the immigration office concerned. Never entered my mind you were being flippant. I am just sorry my reply came over wrong to you. Good advice is hard to find and I appreciate every bit I can get. Thank you again.

If your profile is to be believed and you are in Pattaya you could stop in at the Jomtien Immigration office and get the hand out from them..

not to be believed. I now reside in Sakon nakon. But excellent advice and I have no idea why I didn't think of it myself. Many thanks and very much appreciated.

There is no 'one link'. You should go to the immigration office that you will use and get the handout they have which lists all the requirements for a yearly extension based on being over 50 (retirement).

Tod Daniels: Oh look at Mr. We-Have-it-All—has an office with handouts! What a dream. I have used six different immigration offices. Yet to see a handout. I’m moving to where you are!

No offense. All in jest to make a mild point. It certainly would clear up the endemic problem of getting multiple interpretations of the rules by IOs within the same office.
