Retirement visa non-o

Hopefully my experience today helps somebody out when the filling application in. Mine was from the UK.

Using my PC and Edge and then Chrome… I couldn’t get past the registration page because the contact number kept getting rejected. It automatically spaces out the format. Tried everything, failed. I am IT literate.

Tried it on Safari on my iPhone worked. So registered.

Back to the PC, I think it was the second page and it asks you for your contact number again.

On that page it works fine, when I saw the field I had my head in my hands thinking it would be rejected.

The rest was all fine. It’s not clear what it wants for proof of address, badly worded question, I added a mobile bill.

For the bank statement, you can merge docs, but I just logged in to the bank and did a statement summary for approx 95 days.

I selected 90 day visa. Single entry.

“Visa type:

Non-Immigrant Visa

Purpose of Visit:

Retirement for foreigners aged 50 years or older (who wish to stay in Thailand for no longer than 90 days)”

I confirmed with chatGPT that this was non-o and the one I will be using to apply for a 12 month extension after opening a bank acct as early as possible and vesting 800k baht for 2 months.

I didn’t see any reference to the words “non-o”until the payment and then saw “\

Non-Immigrant Visa(O)”

£60 fee.

OP
Mike Davies it’s not difficult.

10 minutes job.

Collecting the docs and send them to someone to do for you would take longer.

I was taking screenshots of anything I wasn’t sure on and dropping into ChatGPT.

It's OK to register on a phone but never ever apply using anything but a PC or laptop.

I got my Non O here in the UK using chrome on my laptop.

All quite easy really.

I got approval in 15 calendar days

If you use the country prefix (+44) you never have to use the zero

OutgoingCaterpillar485 I filled it in as 7xxx xxxxxx

It auto add the space.

Worked on the phone and the second page after registration.

OutgoingCaterpillar485

I have no idea why Chrome and Edge refused to accept the number.

I even copied and pasted the image into ChatGPT and it was telling me to try different things which I’d already tried.

+44 goes in auto for the country.

You can’t add the 0 at the start, or you can’t add the final digit.

Strange thing is that once I’ve registered and then logged in using that same ID on the PC when it asked me for the number again on a different page, it all looked the same but was no issue.

So something odd on the Registration page only.

Just an info. We have been denied for non-o visa last week. Reason “not being officially retired” .. over 60yo and proven enough funds on 3 months bank statements.

Have been advised to apply for non-OA in this case

OP
TrustyFlamingo7512 any ideas why?

I’m hoping I don’t get this. I did say I retired and high income ..

OP
There is a trick question.

Are you retired? You put down yes.

Next question: What’s your income? If I put down zero, is it going to work against me? if I put something too high - where is the income from?

Maybe I should have gone mid-way…
TrustyFla*********
TrustyFla*********
Ame S Singh nope. The requirements were met. Over 50 and savings
Ame **********

OP
TrustyFlamingo7512 I sent statements showing the 800k equivalent, said retired (left work April) and for income - I have various sources, stocks, pensions, company with rental income, no set amount as I’m not using any of them at the moment so just selected $60k-$80k. Nothing dishonest.

TrustyFlamingo7512 so you applied for a visa that requires you to either show 3 months income of a minimum of 65k baht per month OR a lump sum of 800k baht and you didn't show either? Not surprising your application was rejected. You also need to show the same for a Non-OA visa

Just thinking this through, did you say zero and they ask about savings?

I wouldn’t have followed the same path of questions if that’s the case.

TrustyFlamingo7512 they didn’t ask about savings on my application.

It was if retired and what income.

Did you say retired?

Nicola Jardine I don’t want to give you the wrong information.

Isn’t that less than 60 days? Could you not do the standard new 30 day and then extended by 30 days whilst you’re there?

My visa is 50+.

Again, I don’t want to give wrong information to anybody

You will have to check with your local IM if 2 months seasoning of 800k THB is enough to do the extension?
Ame **********
Ame **********
OP
Henrik JN I’ve not seen anything apart from 800k thb.

I’d probably put in a little bit over anyway.
Henrik ****

Ame S Singh, it is not about the 800k but about the 2 months. Numerous IMs is asking for 4 months even it should be 2 months for the first extension.

If you’re referring to the second extension, I’ve not gotten that far yet.

Nice that your online bank has this feature. Otherwise, this is many times a headache as the Embassy usually do not accept a simple printout.

For info I applied for this visum, sent all the required information (including flight confirmation jan2027-April 2027). Then after two months got an approval but for a period in 2026. I finally called tge embassy where I was told the earliest you can apply for this kind of visum is maximum 6 weeks before your flight date…..
Ame **********
Ame **********
OP
Dirk Dens again my understanding is that they give you 90 days from the approval of the Visa to be actually in Thailand. Hence too early, would expire.

no. You get a 90 day visa.

The non-o application will ask how many days you intend to stay. Enter 90. It auto fills in your INTENDED leaving date.

You must open a bank acct asap when in Thailand; and vest 800k baht for 2 months and then apply for the 12 month extension.

"The one I want extending"

Are you trying to extend your visa by applying for it through the eVisa website?

Because that is not the way to do that.
Ame **********
Ame **********
OP
Marianne Holmen no. I’m applying for the initial non-o retirement visa, whilst in the UK, leaving here mid-October.

Then once I have the money vested in a bank account for 2 months in Thailand, applying for the 12 month extension.

Jim McGowan I have a question, firstly I think I’m wrong in calling the Certificate of Residence - TM16.

I am initially only in Jomtiem for 5 days, then need to go BKK for a few days, then back to hopefully a condo I find in those 5 days.

So I need a TM30 from the hotel, take it to the Immigration Office, get the Certificate of Residence for the bank.

Will the 5 days be sufficient stay at a hotel and can you recommend any hotel that’s not going to give me any grief on it?
Ame **********
Ame **********
OP
Jim McGowan thanks Jim.

I have had the 6cm by 4cm photos made here ready for the process in Thailand for the extension visa.

Then I read you also need a photo a different size one for the Certificate of Residence, but apparently plenty of places near the immigration office in Jomtien for that.

Again, from what I read, take the TM30 to the immigration office to get a TM16 (certificate of residence) which the bank will request if they reject the TM30.

I’ll be going to the bank first, as you suggest, see exactly what they want.
Jim *********
Jim *********
Ame S Singh yes, you understand the process perfectly. Bank branches and bank managers don't all seem to know what the actual requirements are for a foreigner to open an accout, so it's best to ask the branch where you intend to try to open an account what they require. Just make sure to get a Certificate of Residence for the purpose of opening a bank account in Thailand from your local immigration office. It should help with opening a bank account. I have plenty of Thai bank stories from the over 20 years I have had bank accounts in Thailand.

Ame S Singh That's not quite how it works.

Non-O is a 90 day visa.

To extend your stay with 12 months, you will need to apply for it at a local Immigration office in Thailand.

To apply for it, you will need to open a bank account in a Thai bank and deposit 800 000thb into it within the first month of your arrival, so the money has time to season for the required 2 months before you apply for the 1 year extension of stay.
Ame **********
Ame **********
OP
@Alexandra *******
this is the one most suitable for me.

I’ve been reading a lot of posts here and John Stanmer is very knowledgeable.

Non-O will get me the first 12 months extension, then extend yearly after that.

Also there’s a 90 day requirement to let the authorities know where you live. First one done at the immigration office, online after that.

This is my understanding of reading all the posts and some AI…
Marianne ********
Marianne ********
@Alexandra *******
Non-O based on retirement goes nowhere towards a permanent visa /residency status.

It is a 90 day visa that opens up for yearly extensions of stay if you fulfill the financial requirements to do so.
