Hi Everyone,

For the Thailand Special Tourist Visa (STV), can you extend your visa then leave Thailand and come back within the visa extension time frame without issue? Also, for the STV visa requirement of 3 months of rent purchased, does the entire 3 month rent have to be at the same building or can it be multiple rentals that cover the entire 3 month time frame?

Thank you for your time!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The Thailand Special Tourist Visa (STV) is a single entry visa, meaning that once you leave the country, you cannot re-enter on the same visa. Extensions are available, but each extension requires a new prepaid accommodation booking. It is important to have a single booking for the entirety of the first 90 days, along with the necessary documentation, including the landlord's Thai ID and tax number. For extensions, similar requirements will apply.

The STV is a single entry visa...

Use it once and done. If you leave Thailand you cannot reenter on it.

The requirement for prepayment of where you will stay the first 90 days is just that ..one prepaid booking accompanied by the Thai ID and tax number of the one leasing you the address where you will stay.

For each of the two 90 day extensions the same requirements as done on initial issue must be met....including prepaid address of residence and the required insurance.

Thank you for the quick reply! Strange that it is called a tourist visa but you're restricted to one location for 3 months. Can I show proof of 3 month rent at one location but then still stay anywhere I please during the 3 months? Thanks again for your time!

the visa was designed for the snow bunnies in mind seeking refuge from the cold winters.

There is no requirement that you must bunk down at the place prepaid for 90 days. And some creativity may allow you added freedom at less cost.

Be aware that this visa cannot be extended beyond 270 days and cannot be changed into any other visa inside Thailand

Read the requirements of the STV listed on your home country Thai Embassy website...meet them and the STV visa is yours for up to 270 days in Thailand.
