Hi, I have to travel from Koh Phangan soon to visit an embassy to renew my 1yr business visa. What embassies are people recommending these days? Looking for someone fairly easy to reach.

TLDR : Answer Summary
Expat travelers from Koh Phangan seeking to renew their 1-year business visa (Non-B) should consider visiting the Thai consulates in Penang or Kota Bharu, Malaysia, as these are known to issue multiple-entry visas. Some travelers also suggest Yangon, Myanmar, but specify that issuance there may be more selective. It's important to clarify that travelers will be applying for a new multi-entry visa rather than renewing an existing one.

I think I know what it is and what the reasoning is behind it

It probably has to do with the work permit not being valid for 8 months (which is what you need to get a year-long, multi-entry Non-B.

Many times I've seen people get sent out with only the WP3 (receipt of having applied for a work permit) to get a 90 day single entry Non-B, then come back GET their work permit (which is valid for a year) and then go back and get the year-long, multi-entry Non-B visa.

I personally know some people who applied and got non-B single at KL, Singapore, Penang.

First your company apply your WP3, you get all papers to apply Non-B single entry, then receive Non-B and enter Thailand on Non-B. You will be able to be issued WP then, then you can have enough documents to apply Non-B multiple at consulate outside Thailand.

thanks for your explanation! Does that mean I would be safe going to KL for the single entry do you think?

Thank you to all the people who have made comments, it’s very helpful and I am grateful!

Just checking my situation again, my lawyer here on Phangan requires me to go out first and get a non immigrant B single entry visa, once I am back with that, I then have to leave again to get my multiple entry visa. I’m not sure exactly why it’s like that, but it is.

Given that I need to go and get a single entry visa this time, is it still best that I go to Penang rather than KL?
Ellie *******
That the right way to go with visas way (other than extension).

What I'm thinking"MAY BE" happening is your person will get you a single entry non-b, and then an extension of stay based on employment and a multiple entry reentry permit. But that wouldn't require you to leave Thailand twice.
Benjamin ******
That doesn't make sense to me. Why not just get a multiple entry non b the first time?

Best to check with your accountant(lawyer/agency) who preps the papers for you where to submit.

keep in mind you're NOT renewing anything :O You're going to a thai consulate in another country to BUY a NEW year-long, multi-entry Non-B visa.

AND as
@El***
pointed out there are only a couple consulates in the area that will issue them (for SURE Penang and Kota Bharu and maybe Yangon)

Also remember that they have specific requirements (listed as a managing director on the company, listed as at least a director on the work permit, holding a certain percentage of the stock etc).

😞back on the bus to Penang then

If you mean Non-B multiple entry (1 year), only Penang and Kota Bharu, Malaysia issue in SEA.. Yangon, Myanmar also issues multiple entry, but is said for foreigner (not Burmese), decision to issue will be made case by case.

Other consulates issue only single entry.
