What are the options for extending my stay in Thailand with an O-Visa as a child of Thai nationals?

I am currently on an O-Visa (I am a child of Thai nationals) and want to extend my stay for as long as possible. I know I get a 60-day extension of I apply for it through my current visa, but I read in this group that I can also apply for the “Can’t Travel due to Covid” extension which would also give me another 60 days. Is this all correct?

Put simply, what are ways I can extend my stay in Thailand given that I am on an O-Visa?

TLDR : Answer Summary
You can extend your stay in Thailand on an O-Visa by applying for a standard 60-day extension through the immigration office. Additionally, there is an option to apply for a special extension related to Covid-19, which also grants another 60-day extension. This would allow you a total potential extension of up to 120 days under the right circumstances.

Your best bet is as you mentioned. Get the 60 day unable to travel extension and then apply for the 60 day visit family as you're on a non-o. You'll have 120 days to sort out your Thai passport etc.

So you're Thai if your parents are Thai. Confused 🤔

If you're mother gave you birth in the garage doesn't necessarily means you are a car or BMW.

Pretty sure all you'd need is your and your parents birth certificates and apply for Thai ID no?

I’m in the process of that but did not know that was an option until recently. Getting birth certificates from two divorced parents of 20 years is a bit of a mountain to climb, especially when they have no clue where that paperwork is. 😉

you only need your birth certificate with the Thai parent on it and the house book that your mother is registered on. It’s quite simple and of course your current passport. All these documents must be translated into Thai except the Thai house book.

I only have my US birth certificate. I’ve been told I need a Thai birth certificate that I must get from the Thai Consulate closest to where I was born. That is what I am currently trying to sort out, but I get a feeling that it’s going to take some time. And right now I just need to extend my stay until I can figure that paperwork out.

talk to your local Amphur office, they will guide you. I’m pretty sure you need your mother’s Thai ID and a copy of her house book.

Your parents are Thai which means you are Thai regardless of where you were born or am I missing something?
