My friend came to Thailand in December and his tourist visa expired recently. What are his options to stay in the country? Is the covid extension still a possibility for him at MTT? Thanks so much in advance. And yes he is aware of the 500/day overstay fee

TLDR : Answer Summary
The person inquired about their friend's options after their tourist visa in Thailand expired. They specifically asked if the COVID extension is still available and noted their friend's awareness of the overstay fee. Comments highlighted the importance of the entry stamp date over the visa expiration date.

The date his visa expires doesn't matter; it's the date on his entry stamp. What's his "valid to" date on his entry stamp?

some Immigration will want him to apply for the 30 days extension first, before they issue a 60-days covid19-extension. Some will give him the 60-days covid-extension right away, skipping the "normal" 30 days extension. Be aware the covid19-extension will start from the day he applies, while the 30-days extensions will be granted on top of the current end of admitted stay

thank you so much!

and only before the extra 30 days run out, he could think of applying for the "unable to fly covid" extension

just to confirm, the covid extension is still a possibility for him?

so his admitted stay is stamped until February 12th. He can get a 30 days extension for 1900 thb at any immigration inside Thailand

he "used" the visa for entry by December, I can see a number "5". . .which could be his entry date, the 5th, the 15th or the 25th. When did he enter Thailand ?

I'm going to be stunned if his entry stamp is the same as his valid to date on his passport. His entry/ valid to stamp looks like this below [It's the top stamp]

Now we're getting somewhere. Your friend can get a 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19 OR a 30 day extension of stay based on tourism (depending on the immigration office).

The requirements are almost the same.

Different immigration offices have different requirements, but all require the following:

1. Your passport and:

a. a copy of your data ("picture") page

b. a copy of your most recent visa (if you have one)

c. a copy of your most recent stamp

d. a copy of your departure card

2. A TM30, filed in the immigration office.

3. The forms (each immigration office may have different forms)

4. A letter from your embassy saying you can not return, OR a print out from your embassy saying they don’t issue the letters. [Only for a 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19]

5. 2x passport pictures

6. 1,900 THB.

Different immigration offices have different policies. *SOME* may require:

- The ID card of the property owner where you are staying

- Copies of *ALL* stamped pages in your passport
