Can I extend my STV visa a second time in Thailand, and is a 60-day Covid extension possible?

Hello, thanks for accepting me into the group.

I'm currently in Thailand on an STV which has been extended once and expires on 7 November. When I got the first extension (in Bangkok), the officer told me that I could extend a second time as long as I did it before 30 September. Today I went to the immigration office at Samui and was told by the staff managing the queue that I couldn't get an extension because of the expiry date, even though I explained that I'd only done one extension and was told in Bangkok that it would be possible.

I was caught off guard by that and am trying to work out what to do next while I still have plenty of time up my sleeve. Is a 60 day Covid extension possible? I can't seem to find clear information on whether it's possible with an STV. I don't mind leaving late October/early November and going elsewhere (already stayed longer than I'd planned to), but it's convenient and I'd like to stay until early December if there's a way that won't cause too many headaches.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The original poster is seeking clarification on extending their STV visa in Thailand, facing contradictory information about eligibility for a second extension before their current visa expires. They mention that they were previously told they could extend their visa for a second time before September 30th, but were denied an extension at a different immigration office. They are also inquiring about the possibility of obtaining a 60-day Covid extension and are open to leaving Thailand if necessary.

I'm shutting down commenting.

1. The post was hijacked by someone who was using Phuket, and NOT Bangkok or Samui (like the original poster).

2. Different immigration offices have different polices for extending the STV. Some are more relaxed then others. I posted the OFFICIAL requirements from Bangkok earlier in this post.

I'm closing comments. Thank you.

Im in the same situation, my STV visa expires on 4 november, so i went today in Phuket immigration before the 30th as they told me to do and surprise they dont have the stamp for it. They tell people to come back before end of september but doesn't plan anything for it ? Thats so stupid ... Do you think i Can have a chance in Bangkok when i Come back on 2 october ?

Bangkok is strict about the 90 day extension of stay based on STV, and require the following documents, per the below e-mail.

Meet the requirements, and you got the STV extension ๐Ÿ™‚

@Tanguy ******
you can't do it thru the mail, you'd have to come back to Bangkok and apply before the 30th of Sept

Or apply in Phuket at the end of September like they told him to

They won't extend it; not because it can't be extended before the 30th, it can BUT they aren't doing it because at that office you can only extend when you have 30 days or less left on your current stamp <- meaning if you have a stamp that expires on the 7th of Nov you couldn't extend at that office until Oct 8th at the soonest <- which is after the Sept 30th cut off to get another 90 days.

You try another immigration office; like Phuket which will allow extensions when you have 45 days or less left on your current stamp.

OR

You wait it out until your current stamp is running down and then see if you can get a covid extension.

The reason Bangkok told you that is that they too allow extensions when you have 45 days or less left on your current stamp.

Do you have any tips for when it might be advisable to try for the Covid extension? Less than 30 days before the original visa expires?

Yep, the extension stamp is what I meant. I understand that, just want to be well-prepared. I prefer to avoid surprises like the one I got this morning. ๐Ÿ˜…

I would expect a verbal rejection for the 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19 off of an STV. IF they approve it, consider yourself lucky ๐Ÿ™‚

@Anq***
, nothing to do with the original visa sticker. It's to do with your current extension stamp. SO you can apply at that office when you have 30 days or less left on your stamp BUT be prepared to be told to come back closer to when it runs out. There's no gun to your head to get a 60 day covid extension as soon as you can on this stamp the program runs until Nov 26th

@Anq***
That'll be between you and the immigration office. I have seen no reports of anyone getting a 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19 from an STV from an immigration office, but I haven't seen any official rejections either.

So helpful, thank you! I wish I'd known earlier; traveling to Bangkok or Phuket before Friday is probably more trouble than it's worth at this point. I guess I'll plan to go back in a couple weeks to try for an extension and have a backup plan if that isn't possible.
