To whom it may concern: Just got a 60 day covid extension (first time) on an exhausted STV visa (which has been renewed 2 times already) at the Chiang Mai office. No reason or explanation needed. No insurance needed. They still practice consideration stamp (have to come back 2 weeks later to get real stamp).

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user successfully obtained a 60-day COVID extension on their exhausted Special Tourist Visa (STV) at the Chiang Mai immigration office. They noted that no insurance was required for the process and that they will need to return in two weeks for the official stamp. This development contradicts the common understanding that extensions were not available for STV holders.

well.... that ends the standard 'NO extensions for STV holders' diatribe. Enjoy the extra time πŸ™‚

lol, they have been saying it would will imminently end for the last year. But it trudges happily on regardless. I personally think it will continue until such time as border runs are viable again. Or the rules change to allow easier long term stays. We shall see.

60 days start from today

What date does the covid extension run from? Is it added onto the expiry of your last STV stamp?
Bobby ********
Myat Noe Khin. He won't need insurance as the STV conditions no longer apply.

Nope!

You didn't renew the visa, you've got a 60-day covid extension. You'll find your STV has expired

True, i’ll rewrite it a bit. Btw it’s also not correct to say that my STV has expired, because it expires in 2 weeks
