TLDR : Answer Summary
The Thai government has announced that a new electronic travel authorization (ETA) will soon be mandatory for travelers from nearly 100 countries that currently enjoy visa-free travel to Thailand. This includes nations like Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, Canada, the USA, Singapore, China, Hong Kong, and most European countries. Some commenters express concern about the timing and implementation of this system, particularly regarding security and potential impacts on crime rates.

Actually they should have introduced this system prior to changing their visa rules. The way it is now, any type of person can enter Thailand without any vetting. Lets see what happens with crime rates in the coming months.
