TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation discusses the current limitations on travel to Thailand in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly focusing on the types of visas that allow entry during this period. Several comments highlight that only certain visa holders—such as those with business, family connections, international students, or specific retiree visas (such as the Elite Visa or OA/OX visas)—are allowed entry. The pre-COVID-19 visa-free period has been canceled, and new criteria, including quarantine requirements and specific flights, have been established.

You can get in with a marriage 'O' visa if you can find a flight, ASQ hotel, medical insurance, covid19 neg test and a letter from immigration. Cost me quite a few thousand dollars. All up 3-4,000 bucks. Two weeks locked in a hotel room was a ball buster. You'd be amazed how you loose muscle power after just 14 days.

The free visa scheme has been canceled due to covid.

If the words Chartered Flight, Private Jet & Quarantine 50,000 baht are a turnoff then don't bother

No

Why are you mentioning pre-Covid for? Move on, the situation has changed a lot this year 🙄 Focus on the entry criteria NOW, not before, not 5 years ago, not 100 years ago.

and if you are in Australia you have no chance ????

Only certain people are allowed in to Thailand at the moment. Business visa holders, people with Thai family, International Students, Elite Visa or OA or OX retirees. Some charter flights are due for long stay “tourists” but regular tourists are not permitted.

@Stuart ********
Using my OA visa can I come from usa

@Michael *************
when you gave certificate of entry from Thay Embassy
Stuart *********
@Michael *************
you’ll have to check with your local embassy if they offer CoE for OA visa. I believe some countries are not allowed (my guess is US is probably not).

@Stuart ********
I agree probably not. The good part is Vaccinationis supposed to start January

Bim Smith I have a friend from Australia, Elite Visa holder, who is in Quarantine right now. It's not helpful to post speculation, especially when it's factually incorrect.
Bim *******
Jane Beresford list stated by government 29th September. No TE even mentioned. The reason why is because having one doesn't guarantee you are able to get it.
Jane ***********
Bim Smith I didn't say it 'GUARANTEED you to be able to get in'. But if you have an Elite visa and you apply to your Thai Embassy you clearly can get in, as my friend has (and a couple of others I know about too).
Bim *******
Jane Beresford and I know many members who are friends who cannot and been refused. Someone posted in here not along ago about that same issue.
Bim *******
Jane Beresford it'd not speculation I am telling what my friends on TE have told me. They are stuck outside the country also.
Jane ***********
@Bim ******
OMG. But some people with Elite ARE getting in. It is possible
Jane ***********
Bim Smith But my friend with a Thail Elite visa is in the country, so it's inaccurate to say 'Elite visa holders are put on hold'. Some ARE arriving in Thailand.
Bim *******
Jane Beresford where did I say Elite visa is on hold?
Jane ***********
Bim Smith here
Bim *******
Jane Beresford then I stand corrected. I Meant not guaranteed. They were removed from the list sometime ago. I know only one who has done it.
Jane ***********
Bim Smith Well I know more than one, so don't go by your own experiences alone.

Everyone might as well forget coming to Thailand right now unless you fall into the six allowed categories. I have a Thai family and still refuse to go because of the unreasonable expenses and hoops one must go through. My hope is that things will become easier for me next year so that I can return. If you are a tourist, it could be a long wait depending on what country you are coming from.
Stuart *********
Bim Smith there’s been a few that have managed it. Lots of hoops but they’re here now.
Bobby ********
@Stuart ********
. Yes. Elite visa was added the same time as OA and OX.
Garrett ***********
Bim Elite visa holders can apply for a COE.
Bim *******
Garrett Greenwald my friends have been told otherwise especially from high risk countries.
Garrett ***********
Bim Told by who?
Bim *******
Garrett Greenwald friends on TE visas outside the country. Many of them
Greg ********
Bim Smith I have heard same. Could be due to location. Fir example STV is not open to UK either. My pal showed me a copy of his reply from Thai Embassy
Bim *******
Greg Bewick I believe it is location yes.
Greg ********
Bim Smith It has to be.
Garrett ***********
Bim So someone on Facebook told your friend, who's telling you, who's telling us that the official requirements are incorrect?

Elite holders must apply for a COE like everyone else.
Bim *******
Garrett Greenwald they checked with TE themselves straight from the horse's mouth. Being a TE member alone does not guarantee you access to the country. It depends on the country you come from.
Roy ***********
Bim Smith Perhaps it does not have to do where they come from, but with very limited number of people that can come in?

Even Thai people are having big problems coming back because of limited quarantine capacity.
