TLDR : Answer Summary
The current health insurance requirement for the O-A Retirement Visa in Thailand remains at a minimum coverage of 3 million THB. Although there have been discussions about possibly changing it to 400,000 THB, as of now, no changes have been officially implemented.

Depends if you’re talking about the initial one year Non O-A visa at the embassy or a further yearly extension of stay in Thailand based on a Non O-A visa. Then the requirements are 400K baht for inpatient and 40K baht for outpatient with an approved thai insurance company.

Thank for our comment , I already renewed my visa retirement in Thailand 9 times . But the first one was done abroad. Have I to conclude it will be 400.000 thb? Thanks.

So you are not applying for a Non-OA extension but a new Non-OA Visa outside Thailand before returning therefore look at the Embassy/Consulate website where you will be applying for their specific requirements

I suggest you as your local immigration and get handed over their requirements. But normally requirements for extension is thai health insurance covering 400K baht. (At the embassies for issuing visa it’s still 3 million baht). This is the list over approved companies

In 2015 my first visa request did not have any request for a health insurance . Only deposit in a French account of

euros.

Ok, the regular Non O still doesn’t have any mandatory health insurance requirements, only the one year Non O-A visa. And the requirements maintains also for your future Extensions of Stays.

That’s why several people on a stay based on a Non O-A visa leave and cancel their visa. Re-enter on a visa exemption or tourist visa and apply for a regular Non O visa in country instead just to get rid of the mandatory health insurance requirement.

Thanks for your good explanations . I have to think twice because anyway at my age , I need an insurance coverage in Thailand in case of major health problems.

Yes, health insurance is very important and I think the main reason why people wish to cancel the mandatory one approved by the Thai immigration is because it’s said to be expensive VS coverage.
