TLDR : Answer Summary
The last day for the current Covid visa extension is May 24th, 2022. While there are possibilities for further extensions, this largely depends on the progress of reopening borders for land travel to neighboring countries.

It will be extended until border reopens, and by reopen I mean being able to go to a neighboring country by land and do a tourist visa, Non-O, etc. Right now, its not possible, so the Covid Extension will most likely be extended until this is possible.
not to mention increasing cases of covid19 and deaths in asia.. around 120 daily death toll and more than 20,000 new cases (without much screening) in Thailand. Most think it is already over just because most countries lifted covid19 safety measures due to econo-politic motives. According to worldmeters still more than 16,000 are dying weekly due to covid19. I agree that Thailand will continue the covid19 extensions a few more times this summer. Thailand also needs a lot of tourist to boost its weak economy.
Because until border bounces are possible, they will lose too many foreigners if they remove the Covid extension. You may think that there are a lot of tourists in Thailand right now, but no, very little still. They can't afford to annoy the ones who still rely on Covid extension. When border bounces are back and buses go to borders every day, they will remove Covid extension. For now, people are flying to Phnom Penh to get tourist visa, it's simply not efficient enough so such Covid extensions will remain until border bounce reopens.
I live in Thailand for 10 years and I have no idea what you are referring to. You do not need a visa to enter Thailand unless you are required "visa on arrival" (selective number of countries).
For now it's may 24th it could be extended further but with the relaxing of other requirements such as pcr etc I am very doubtful it will be extended any further
