TLDR : Answer Summary
To apply for an extension of a one-year visa in Thailand, specifically a Non-OA visa, you need to consider the insurance requirements which are necessary for certain types of extensions. Generally, there's clarification needed between the concepts of 'renewal' and 'extension.' A one-year visa cannot be simply renewed; instead, you apply for an extension. The insurance requirements differ depending on the type of visa you're on, where the One-Year Retirement Extension specifically requires insurance for the Non-OA visa. For the O-A extension, the insurance thresholds are 40,000 THB for outpatient (OPD) care and 400,000 THB for inpatient (IPD) care. Check the official immigration site for the most current requirements.

If you're talking about an O-A extension, the OP is 40k and IP is 400k.

If you are on a 12 month Non-OA Visa which has not yet expired (the Visa not your entry stamp) you can get new 12 month nsurance and border bounce to get a new 12 month entry stamp (but not multi-entry when the Non-OA is expired)

There's no such thing as a visa renewal. You can apply for an extension. The only extension that requires insurance is a 1-year retirement extension if you started with a 1-year non-OA visa that also required insurance.
