What are the implications of overstaying my visa in Thailand if I leave on the 17th or extend my stay?

Hi all ! Our visa finishes on the 16th of September. We are wanting to fly to Bali on the 16th but almost all fights have a 10+ layover in Bangkok. With the flight and the layover we will be leaving Thailand on the 17th from Bangkok. What does this mean in terms of overstay ?

There are much better flight options on the 18th of September but again will be in overstay - is there an option to get a 7 day visa to extend and get our flight ?

Thanks for your help !

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is concerned about overstaying their visa which expires on September 16 while planning to fly out to Bali. They inquire about the consequences of leaving Thailand on the 17th due to flight layovers and whether they can extend their visa for better flight options on the 18th. Responses indicate that typically, the first day of overstay may be waived, but fines apply for subsequent days. An extension of stay is possible at immigration with specific costs, allowing the user a few extra days.

I had a one day overstay and they waved it. A two day and it cost me 1000 baht.

Your Admitted to stay ends on 16th of September.

You can check in and pass immigration on the airport before 23:59 hours.

If you go later a stamp for overstay will be placed in your passport.

First day is most of the time waved for fines but if you have two days all days are fined with 500 thb a day.

You can apply at Immigration for a new Extension of Stay and if you can not meet requirements you get a stamp Application not approved and 7 days to leave the country, cost of this application is 1.900 Thb.

You can apply for a new Extension of Stay based on being unable to travel due to Covid

@Robert ******
if they apply for the covid extension and get denied, will they get a 7 day to leave stamp in their passport? if so, will this affect future travel to Thailand?

@Paul ********
The stamp that an application is denied has not affect on future travel to Thailand.
