I’m currently preparing my DTV application through the Thai Embassy in Ottawa, and I’d love to get some feedback from people who have already gone through the process 🙏
Regarding the 500,000 THB financial requirement:
* Do the funds need to have been in your bank account for a specific period (e.g. 3–6 months)?
* Or is it acceptable if the funds were deposited more recently, as long as you can prove the source?
Also, for those who have renewed or extended their DTV:
* Were you asked to show the same financial proof again?
* Any specific requirements or surprises during the renewal process?
I’ve seen quite a bit of conflicting information online, so any real experience with the Royal Thai Embassy Ottawa would be super helpful.
Thanks a lot in advance 🙌

TLDR : Answer Summary
The process of applying for a DTV visa through the Royal Thai Embassy in Ottawa has raised questions regarding the financial requirements, specifically the need for 500,000 THB in funds, and the potential for those funds to be deposited recently if sourced properly. Discussion includes whether applicants need to show proof of funds for a specific duration before the application and whether the same proof is required during the renewal process. Experiences shared suggest that while some embassies require 3 months of bank statements, rules can vary. When extending or renewing, original documents and updated bank statements are necessary, and some expats mention finding it easier to leave Thailand for a visa run rather than seeking an in-country extension.
To extend the visa inside Thailand you need all the original documents, including your bank statements, updated. The visa has not existed for five years yet, so no one knows what will be required to renew it. It is a multi entry visa so you just leave the country, and return to get another 180 day entry stamp.
Morgan Bertin I would hazard to guess that less than half a percent of DTV holders get an extension in country, it's just not worth the hassle, border bounces the way to go. If you did get an extension you'd have to bounce the next time anyway, so get used to it
Morgan Bertin Majority leave Thailand and return to get the next 180 days. In theory 180 days extension available bit in practice it is not easy and some offices make it almost impossible. Depends on the office.
