Will having over 500,000 baht in my savings account for 2 months suffice for DTV visa approval in Thailand?

Hi everyone,

I’m applying for the DTV at the Thai embassy in Jakarta and wanted to check something. I’ve had over 500,000 baht in my savings account for a bit more than 2 months (but not quite 3 months yet). The funds were transferred from a term deposit account into my savings account more than 2 months ago. Do you think that will be sufficient for the embassy to approve the visa?

Also, would adding a Thai bank account (alongside my non-Thai one) help increase the chances of approval? Or would that just complicate things?

The official website says a 3-month bank statement is required—do you think it’s safer to submit a 6-month statement instead?

If you have any relevant experience or helpful info, I’d really appreciate your input. Thanks in advance!

I heard that the thai embassy in Jakarta don't accept WALK INN, you have to do it on internet.

Jakarta want to see 3 months of statements but not 500k for full time. I submitted 3 months but 500k was only there for 2 months and had no problem

Read the requirements on the website of the Embassy you want to use, or search the group for that specific Embassy, there are loads of answers to that allready.

You can not use DTV to get a Thai bankaccount, for that you need a genuine long term visa, not tourist visa as DTV.

embassy website doesn’t mention how long the funds need to be in the bank.

Did search that in the group. Long time ago there seemed to be people with funds in the bank for only a few days but still got the visa. Haven't found recent posts so helpful regarding the duration of funds in the bank.

I’ve already had a Thai bank account.

no need to apply a thailand bank account, coz DTV holders should get salary from other country. If you told them you will get the salary by thailand bank, then things becomes complicated, because you need to prove you are not working for thai company or thai clients and you need to prove that you didnt earn thailand baht.

I’m not applying via the workation route so no salary is involved in the Thai bank account. But possibly a Thai bank account may complicate things.

Jakarta has no seasoning requirement for the 500k. 6 months of statements strengthens your application. Majority are approved without a Thai bank account.

Hi Andi, since you're a group expert, by any chance would you know whether I need to have equivalent cash of 20,000 baht when coming to Thailand regarding DTV just in case immigration randomly checks? I knew it’s a requirement for visa exemptions but I'm unsure about DTV. Thanks!
Andi ***********
Anonymous participant It is a requirement for visa exempt entry and tourist visa holders although not widely enforced. DTV comes under the tourist visa so you can be asked for it. I always have that much just in case. 20, 000 THB in any currency is fine.

The requirement for how long the funds need to be in the bank isn’t very clear—it seems to vary depending on the embassy and even the time of year you apply. In short, it keeps changing.

I’ve had the funds in my account for just over two months now. To be on the safe side, I was thinking of adding another bank balance to strengthen the application, in case the embassy expects the funds to have been there for more than three months. If I knew for sure that three months was the fixed requirement, I’d simply wait until I reached that mark before applying.

Anonymous participant check in search bar here or contact the embassy. There is enough advise here but as l said one account 2 won't help. Search Jakarta DTV

If the embassy responded promptly—or at all—people wouldn’t have to ask questions here in the first place. When I mentioned that recent posts weren’t very helpful, I was specifically referring to the ones about the required duration of funds in the bank for the embassy in Jakarta. Also, the embassy's website doesn't actually mention any specific requirement regarding how long the funds need to be in your account.

Anonymous participant just did a quick search here the last 10 posts 8 provided 6 months statement 2 provided 3 months statements so guess it's your call you only have 2 so if you don't want to wait another month just submit and see how you go.

I guess just because they provided 3 or 6 months of bank statements doesn’t necessarily mean they had over $500k sitting in the account the whole time. They might’ve just moved the money in, and it only stayed there for a couple of months.

In my case, my funds have been moving between my savings account and term deposit account over the past six months. I think their accountant should be able to see that in the statements and understand the situation — hopefully that’s enough to get me a pass.

Try it and you'll know... 🤔 If you feel unsafe not following the basic requirements, then wait until fulfilling them. No one is able to guarantee anything here. That's the embassy you need to contact.

You've obviously never been to Thailand if you think Thai government ministries publish concrete rules, this isn't UK or Germany. Each law is context based like the rest of their cultural understanding and even language

Yep that's the issue here.

Anonymous participant 509 didn’t see anywhere in the official requirement mentioning about how long the funds need to be in the account.
