DTV Visa – 500,000 THB Financial Requirement & Applying While Abroad

Hi everyone,

I have two questions regarding the Destination Thailand Visa (DTV).

1. Financial requirement – 500,000 THB

Meeting the 500,000 THB financial requirement is not a problem for me. I have regular business income, ongoing transactions, and a five-figure investment portfolio.

However, I don’t normally keep large amounts of money sitting unused in my personal bank account for months. My funds are usually moving between business accounts, personal accounts, and investments.

I’m planning to transfer approximately USD 20,000 (or the equivalent in EUR) into my personal bank account and apply for the DTV about two weeks later.

I can also provide bank statements showing regular income and business transactions.

Would this be acceptable, or must the 500,000 THB remain in the personal bank account continuously for three months?

Does the three-month requirement simply mean providing three months of bank statements, or maintaining the minimum balance throughout that entire period?

2. Applying from abroad while having permanent residence

If someone has a legally registered permanent residence in a country, do they still need to be physically present in that country when applying for a DTV through its Thai embassy?

For example, if I have an official registered residence in Türkiye but am temporarily traveling in another country, can I submit my DTV application online through the Thai Embassy in Ankara using my Turkish residence documents?

Or is physical presence in Türkiye mandatory at the time of application, even with valid proof of residence?

Has anyone recently applied under similar circumstances, particularly through the Thai Embassy in Ankara?

I’d really appreciate firsthand experiences or official clarification on these two points.

Thanks in advance!
Answer summary
The post discusses the financial requirements for the Destination Thailand Visa (DTV), specifically the need to maintain a minimum balance of 500,000 THB in a personal bank account for three months. It questions whether the funds can be just transferred shortly before the application and if three months of bank statements satisfy the requirement. The second query is about applying from abroad while having a registered permanent residence; whether physical presence in that country is necessary during the visa application process.

You need to have at least 500k in a personal bank account and seasoned during those 3 months, so just transferring the money to weeks prior to application will not work.

You need to be physically in the jurisdiction of the embassy where you apply during the whole application process. You will be asked for proof of location.

Generally 3 months in 1 personal account is required - as far as I’m aware, the London embassy seems to be the only exception where they will accept the funds seasoned for 10 days only. So check your embassy requirements to be sure.

And yes you need to reside in the country you’re applying for until processing is finished.

The 3-month requirement depends on the Turkish Embassy's requirements in the personal account, and yes, you need to be in Turkey when you apply and remain there while the application is processed.

It is all questions that has been asked numerous times, so use some time to research properly.

You have to have the 500.000 Baht equivalent amount in a personal account as long as the embassy requires, which means 3-6 months, before you can apply.

It is you as a person that apply for the visa, not a company, that’s why the money has to be in an personal account, where the money is immediately available at all times.

So you can’t use business and investment accounts.

The deposit is for situations where unforeseen things happens, that requires that you can pay immediately any expenses up to 500.000 Baht, such as fines, compensations, hospital bills before treatment begins, and so on, so you can’t more them back to other accounts after a short period.

You have to be in the resident country from the day you apply and until the whole visaprocess is over, and you either get a visa or get rejected

It can be as long as 2 - 3 months, if you leave the resident country the visa may be rejected, and you will loose the 10.000 Baht visafee.

The next 3-4 months are highseason fo visa applications, so it may take longer than the embassy state on their website.
