From my understanding it's not possible to apply for stv within Thailand, is there any way to extend a visa past 90 days if you are holding a single entry tourist visa?

TLDR : Answer Summary
A single entry tourist visa in Thailand allows for a maximum stay of 60 days, which can be extended for an additional 30 days, making a total of 90 days. Extensions beyond this period are not possible; you would need to leave Thailand and obtain a new visa. The STV (Special Tourist Visa) cannot be applied for while in Thailand but must be obtained before arrival. Alternatives include applying for a Non-Immigrant Visa O under certain conditions, or potentially obtaining a medical extension which is difficult and requires significant documentation.

I'm shutting down this post:

To enter/ stay in Thailand

1. A person can get a single entry tourist visa that allows staying for 60 days, and then apply for ONE 30 day extension of stay.

2. A person can enter on a visa exempt, which allows staying for 30 days, and then apply for ONE 30 day extension of stay.

3. A person can enter on a STV, which allowing staying for 90 days, and then apply for TWO 90 day extension of stay based on STV. This can only be acquired OUTSIDE of Thailand. ASK the local Thai consulate for more information.

4. I *WOULD NOT* try getting a medical extension of stay, there is a lot of paperwork required, and I can't imagine dental work preventing a person from traveling outside of Thailand.

BORDER BOUNCING AS AN OPTION:

The land borders between Thailand and neighboring countries are still closed. All countries surrounding Thailand are still closed to general tourists. AS OF RIGHT NOW, any suggestions about border bouncing by air or land will be removed.

Thank you.

Can you still apply for a covid extension?

@Gerald *******
good point, yes a 60 day covid extension can be applied for up until Nov 26th when the program is schedule to end. That would buy them 2 months (y)

Last day is November 26th. But I don't think it's relevant because the poster isn't even in Thailand yet.

as

stated you might be able to turn in documentation from your treating physician and get an extension of stay based on medical reasons (which can be issued for up to 90 days) BUT that's between you, the immigration office you use and the hospital/doctor as far as if they can give you documentation.

Many offices do not hand out medical extensions easily at all and have the bar set quite high to get them.

Can you apply for a NON-IMMIGRANT VISA CATEGORY โ€œOโ€

(O MEDICAL VISA) within Thailand?

Was considering getting dental work done

@Jack ********
nope, can't get a Non-O visa issued for medical reasons inside the country either.

IF the dentist is willing to sign a form saying you can not travel after dental work, and the recovery time is longer then your "admitted to" stamp, then you can get an extension of stay based on unable to travel due to medical work.

You're correct
@Jack ********
, it's not possible to apply for stv within Thailand, you buy that at a thai consulate in your country before you come here ๐Ÿ˜•

If you enter on a 60 day single entry tourist visa, you can get ONE 30 day extension of stay based on tourism. After that, you have to leave Thailand, or figure out another visa you qualify for.
