Can Canadian and American passport holders on a 30-day visa in Thailand extend their stay with an onward flight to Cambodia?

Our friends are Canadian and American passport holders who now live in Mexico. Unfortunately they could not apply for a 60 day visa on line from there.

Can they arrive using the 30 day visa allowance and the flight booked to Cambodia for 60 days and the TM7 form for the next 30 days filled out to get into Thailand? They do not have a flight booked out at 30 days

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses whether Canadian and American passport holders living in Mexico can enter Thailand using a 30-day visa exemption and extend their stay with a flight booked to Cambodia. Comments highlight that airline policies may require proof of onward travel, suggesting ways to circumvent potential boarding issues, including purchasing a refundable ticket. One commenter shares their experience of applying for a Thai visa from abroad, leading to a debate on the legality of their actions.

Last I checked Cancun is not in the US.

I have applied for a Thai tourist visa from the US Embassy Washington while in Cancun. The eVisa website has an "eligibility" test on the first page. It asks two questions: 'Where are you?" and "Where are you from?". If a person enters US in both cases they are allowed to go to the actual application. The actual application ask very similar but slightly different questions: "Where are from (nationality of your passport)?" and "Where are you a legal resident?". In my case I am a legal resident of the USA, I have a driver license to prove, which is the requirement.

Its a $60 risk (or whatever the cost of the visa). It's worked out well for me. I have done it a few times (Mexico and Indonesia) and I would do it again, but it is not gaurnteed.

so you committed fraud against the Kingdom of Thailand. You signed a document that all information was truthful but lied. People like you are why we have to jump thru’ so many hoops for the visa process

You obviously didn't read the fine print.

A) Didn't sign any document

B) I was absolutely truthful on the application. You could re-read my post to see what I said.

People like you are the reason Immigration Officers don't like expats.

I guess English isn’t your first language. You clearly committed fraud against the Thai government. You need to physically be in the US when applying at a US consulate

Just buy a fully refundable ticket and cancel after you pass immigration in Thailand. Use a credit card.

They can come in visa exempt and extend, but it depends on their airline if they will let them board. Some airlines will want proof of onward travel within the visa exempt period, whilst others don't check at all. You can book an onward ticket for $10-15 online to get around this.

if you're worried just book a cheap ticket to a neighbouring country, do it for within the days you get stamped in for, some people just wait and see what happens at the airline check in desk, if there is a problem you can just step away and book a cheap flight there and then to be allowed to travel, if you do this give yourself plenty of time.

use a site like onwardticket.com or Google "onward ticket". Otherwise you can just buy a cheap ticket to a neighbouring country.

People talk about these "onward ticket" companies, I purchased one once and it looked so fake!! it just looked like something someone had made on a word document, sure it had a booking reference, I've checked it out once with the airline website, and it's just a ticket with your name and no other information, if one day someone decided to check on it at the airport your going have problems, personally I wouldn't buy one again, much safer and not much difference in price to purchase a real ticket. I wouldn't be surprised if it's people that work for these "onward ticket" companies commenting on these posts, because to me it's just pointless.

yep you got me, I'm paid by big onward ticket... Do people not have phones, check in desk goes your tickets fake, okay I'll just buy a cheap ticket to Cambodia right now for $40.

People stress way to much about a problem that can be fixed in 5mins with a credit card and a phone.

That’s probably going to be more of an issue with the airline and whether they’d be allowed to board rather than an issue with immigration.

Some airlines will insist on a ticket out of Thailand within the initial days allowed. Some won’t.
