TLDR : Answer Summary
To enter Thailand without a visa for short visits (less than 30 days) as a U.S. citizen, you'll need to have your passport, proof of vaccination, or a certified negative antigen test if unvaccinated. It's crucial to have proof of 20,000 baht or its equivalent in cash, documentation for where you will stay, and proof of onward travel within the 30-day stamp duration. Note that from October 1st, the entry allowance may extend from 30 to 45 days for visa-exempt travelers.

Passport, vax certificate or certified negative antigen test if not vaxxed.

30 day visa exempt entry will be increased to 45 days if you enter on or after October 1st.

hi Stuart a quick question I'm leaving on October the 20th from Birmingham, do I need the return flight booked within the 45 days of arrival ,I think I will just need to phone the airline and change the flight ,while there and then attend visa I was looking to stay for 5 months I just don't want to lose the return flight any help thanks

really depends on the airline. Some will let you board, but some will insist on an onward ticket. Buy a throw away one or Google “onward tickets” and pay around $10 to rent one.

Train is cheap. Train ticket from Hat Yai to Padang Besar is 100 baht (approx US$3/£2.50). Third class so won’t be very comfortable for the ride you won’t be taking. 12go.asia

Media reports today suggest that the vax cert or negative test won’t be needed after October 1st- but that’s not confirmed as yet.

Have your passport and proof of vaccination.

The other requirements are only used if they want to deny you entry to Thailand

1) proof of 20,000 baht or equivalent in another major currency in cash only

2) proof of where you'll be staying

3) proof of onward travel out of Thailand within the number of days you'll be stamped in for
