My boyfriend has a DTV visa, and he needs to do his 90-day reporting. What could happen if he doesn’t go? He plans to wait another month or so before leaving the country because he’s too lazy to do it.

I’m worried because I don’t think this is something he should take lightly. It’s not necessarily as simple as paying a 2,000 baht fine and moving on. There could be more serious consequences.
Answer summary
The 90-day reporting requirement for a DTV visa in Thailand is important and neglecting it can lead to consequences such as fines, loss of visa, or even problems upon leaving the country. While some expats reported that they have never faced issues, others stressed the potential risks, including being blacklisted or fined if caught. Some recommended completing the report as soon as possible for peace of mind.

If you miss your 90-day address report (TM47) on a Destination Thailand Visa (DTV), you face specific administrative penalties depending on how the situation is handled:

• Standard Fine (Voluntary Report): If you go to the immigration office or process the late report yourself after the grace period (7 days past the due date), the standard fine is 2,000 THB.

• Higher Fine (If Arrested/Caught): If you are arrested or stopped by authorities for non-compliance rather than reporting it yourself, the fine increases to 4,000 THB (or up to 5,000 THB depending on enforcement) plus potential daily penalties.

• Leaving the Country: If you leave Thailand before making the 90-day report, the day count resets upon your re-entry, and airport immigration typically does not fine you for past unsubmitted reports at departure.

• Record & Scrutiny: Repeated or severe non-compliance can lead to negative notes on your immigration file and increased scrutiny for future stays or visa extensions

If the office isnt busy it takes 5 min to so. Not worth the fine or trouble not doing it

They should be fine. While he is at it, I hear paying at 7-11 is optional as well.

It is a very laid back country. Just ask the foreigners getting their properties appropriated for nominee fraud.

Ignore unhelpful comments, some people here are unhappy with their own lives, so they look for someone to take their frustration out on. You can be late for 90 days report. My boyfriend forgot to do it for several months and he just paid fine 2,000 baht and that’s it, nothing happened to him.

There are visa agencies that can handle this for you for a fee of 650 baht; you simply leave your passport with them and pick it up the following day. This was last year's fee.

Your boyfriend is a loser who doesn’t care about you or his own immigration status. Get rid of him, he’s a moron.

On a more practical side, he can pay an agent 500-600thb to do it for him.

Why do we have foreigners coming into thailand and just think they can ignore the rules? If need to do 90 day reporet , why not just do it? I dont get it..being lazy or ignorance or arrogance? At the end even the honest and dignified temp visa holders get scrutinized for nothing just because there are those who became a stain for others .

Been here 10 years, never done a 90 day report. I travel out of country every few months (but many stays up to ~6 months where I should have done 90 day report)Never had a problem at all

It's so weird the way people will willingly gamble with their immigration status. I keep my nose clean especially as a visa holder bc one thing I don't want to do is risk losing that visa. Crazy.

It's a big fine. And if you have overstayed more than 90 days past your Visa expiration, you are banned for one year automatically

How stupid to disrespect the rules, normally honest mistakes they dont mind but if someone is so open about doing it then there will be consequences and rightly so. Its not hard.

Get a new boyfriend… the process is super easy, takes like 20 min, and he complies with Thai law. I never understand why people insist on breaking the law as a visitor in a foreign country… anyone from the US know what happens when people ignore immigration requirements and overstay their visa?

Well submitting the visa application is way more tedious than the 90 day check so I don’t even know why he went through the process if he wasnt planning on following the rules.

Nothing really they don’t check it at immigration when he leaves

But if he ever does it in the future he might get fined at immigration

Also if he gets into trouble that will be another paragraph on the charge sheet

It’s super easy to do it and there are services that charge around ฿500 to do it for you as well

But to each their own
