What should I do if I was denied entry to Thailand and possibly blacklisted?

I was recently denied entry in BKK due to using the visa exemption on entry too many times. I’m now back in the Uk where I am a citizen.

I did left the kingdom twice last year, each time reset my visa.

I emailed the Thai embassy in London to ask if I could apply for a DTV visa (soft power) and they replied with a very confusing message. They stated I may not be approved for the DTV and that I should apply for a tourist visa. They also said my name is on a blacklist with local immigration.

I have never heard of someone being blacklisted after a denied entry, only after overstays (I have never) or breaking the law. Could it be the email is misunderstood with regards to the phrasing?

Any advice is greatly appreciated, I love spending time in the kingdom and have been a genuine tourist the whole time. Not working etc…

TLDR : Answer Summary
A UK citizen was denied entry to Thailand after using the visa exemption too frequently and fears being blacklisted. They have received unclear guidance from the Thai embassy about applying for a DTV visa and are seeking advice on how to proceed. Comments from the community provide insights on similar experiences, with some suggesting the possibility of being flagged in the immigration system rather than officially blacklisted. Others recommend contacting reliable agents in Thailand or applying for the DTV visa from another country.

If the embassy is telling you / you are blacklisted, what more information do you need?

The same thing happened to a friend of mine. He is a French citizen. On the second entry, the immigration police called his girlfriend and asked if he was really with her in a relationship. After she had said yes, he was allowed in, but the very last time the next time he would have to apply for the correct visa. He was on a „blacklist“ too after he was back in france to apply for a Tourist Visa

Anonymer Teilnehmer 809 I mean, when he applied for a new visa in France, he was also told that he was on a blacklist

I’ve been denied entry and sent back to country, had no problem getting DTV immediately after, I used a vip service to get back in to avoid questions but overall no problems

Anonymous participant 260 which service did you use? Did you enter though Bkk? I was thinking of trying a land border instead

Anonymous participant 260 also have some secret code in the back page of my passport which I assume means I got denied, still no problem. If you’re back in the UK I would get a new passport but I don’t think it’s a huge problem either way

I’m not buying this story, sorry. Only entered/exited 2 times in 1 year, immediately got on a plane back to the UK without heading to the nearest embassy to get a visa, embassy advising which visa should apply for, informs OP they are on immigration blacklist .. I smell troll post.

He's not the only one... A lot of people are getting denied. There is nothing new, just a bigger crackdown which fits with new regulations, new visas, new systems... Certainly not on a blacklist but got a note and warned about it.

Anonymous participant 940 also poipet border crackdown cant enter in same day.Because of too much chinese illegal activities.

nothing to do with Chinese. Poipet has been the worst land border to avoid at all costs for years.

I been pulled up in bkk for using the visa exemption too much. Early last year. Visited a few weeks ago ( 3 days bkk for flight to uk). And was asked for flight out. I am guessing I am flagged. But when in bkk immigration they were super nice. Just said next time just get correct visa. Looking to apply for dtv in a few weeks. Be interesting if denied. I hit all the criteria. I thought this is why the dtv was implemented

Sorry to hear this, and I’m hearing stories like these on the daily now.

My wife, daughter, and I were also warned after our second entrance on a Visa Exempt (both times fully extended). They said that our names were noted in their systems with the warning and that we’d need to get the correct visa next time we try to enter.

Prior to the warning, they pulled us from the airport immigration line and told us to fill out some forms and show them our cash on hand and bank account balance. It was a little strange, but they were respectful.

So now we all have the DTV.

Your story mirrors exactly what happened to a pal of mine. Told to get visa next time and a note added to passport and system

Just apply for the DTV. Worst case is that you get denied and lose the application fee.

I doubt you're on a blacklist, but there may be notes on your immigration history profile. Your history of entries will stay in their system. This could cause issues when crossing the border, even if you have a visa. Ultimately, it's up to the immigration officer to decide whether to let you in.

How many days did you stay ? Lately I have been hearing that they are suspicious about long stays etc . Were you denied entry flying in? I have done over 10 visa exempts in mast 2 years no problems whatsoever.

I do not know about blacklist but a pal of mine had a note entered both into the Thai immigration system and written in his passport. He was not denied entry on the Visa Exempt but told to get the correct visa next time. There is a formal blacklist as you mention. The best way to deal with this is to contact a Thai lawyer who deals with these specifically.

The first thing I’d suggest you do, is contact somebody in Thailand (an agent or similar) who can verify whether you are actually Infact on a blacklist in Thailand. Please try to use a reputable one.

As far as im aware, It’s uncommon to be blacklisted for this reason, but there may well be a note on the system to indicate that you were refused entry & subsequently returned to your port of origin.

I’m sure you’ll know this, but don’t try to reenter again, unless you have a relevant visa, be it DTV or tourist.

After that contact with the embassy in London, if you do apply for the DTV in the future, I’d recommend doing so from another country. ✌️
