Typical Thailand Immigration.

Can't do a DTV 90 day report at Chamchuri Square, Bangkok with a DTV visa. Told have to travel 20 km (1.5 hr) to Lak Si.

Waste of time, shame the information isn't clearer or even remotely visible considering a large percentage of people with DTV aren't even aware a 90 day report is required. I would have imagined the Immigration bureau would ask the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to advise recipients of such visas to be aware of such a requirement if it's really that important.

For such a straightforward process, it seems to be incredibly inconvenient.

TLDR : Answer Summary
DTV visa holders in Thailand experience challenges with the 90-day reporting process, often having to travel to specific locations like Lak Si instead of being able to do reports at more accessible places like Chamchuri Square. There is frustration around the lack of clear information regarding this requirement, leading to inconveniences for those unaware of the reporting necessity. Just make a day of it. You are hardly rushed off your feet.

You have to go to Chaengwattha. Put a day aside. Why would DTV holders not have to do a 90-day report?
