Do I need to carry 20,000 THB in cash upon arrival after getting a tourist visa?

Hi all!

I've recently had my 60 day tourist visa application approved, and part of the application was proving I had at least 20,000 THB in my account.

Do I still need to carry 20,000 THB in cash when I arrive? Or is my visa proof enough that I have access to the necessary funds?

Thank you ๐Ÿ™

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquired whether carrying 20,000 THB in cash is necessary upon arrival in Thailand after receiving approval for a 60-day tourist visa, especially since they had already proved they have the necessary funds for the application. A comment indicates that while the cash may not be required, it is advisable to have it on hand in case immigration authorities request proof of funds, as well as corroboration of accommodation and onward travel plans.

You need to show 20K thb equivalent cash in case you are asked for proof of funds even if you have a prover tourist visa.

Unless you have extensive history travelling Thailand, the chance you are asked for it would be slim, but not zero.

Same to proof of accommodation and onward travel. In case you are asked, you need to show them.

the โ€œ20k in cashโ€ is a requirement for visa exempt entry, not entry with a valid tourist visa. An immigration officer could ask for it but it would have nothing to do with actual requirements. They know you have to show money to get a tourist visa in the first place.

Ryan Brosch, no, those are the basic requirements to enter Thailand not only for visa exempt, regardless whatever visa you have or visa exempt/waiver you are eligible.

You might have shown bank balance for visa application at the embassy/consulate. But it does not proof you have funds that is accessible immediately when you enter Thailand.
