Hey I'm trying to move to Thailand from United States. I'm leaving in 12 days and am close to a Thai Embassy in Washington D.C. I'd be willing to go to school to get an E.D. Visa but am not sure best way to go about getting it, any advice on school, enrollment processing and other tips would be appreciated.

TLDR : Answer Summary
To obtain an ED visa to study in Thailand, first consider getting a single entry tourist visa from the Thai Embassy in Washington D.C. This allows you 60 days in Thailand, which can be extended for an additional 30 days for a fee. Alternatively, a 6-month multi-entry tourist visa may also be beneficial, enabling you to explore various schools in Thailand before committing. Once you choose a school and pay for your enrollment, you'll receive the necessary paperwork to apply for the ED visa, which can be processed in neighboring countries like Laos or Malaysia.

As other posters have said at least get a single entry tourist visa before you come here, as that'd get you stamped in for 60 days and then you could extend that by 30 more inside the country for 1900baht.

I'd say you'll need all that time to go to various schools and decide on one so you can go out of the country and get an ED visa.

Get a 6 month multi-entry tourist visa from the embassy there first. Come to Thailand, explore and find a school. Then just before your tourist visa expires, pay the school the money, they give you the paperwork and you go to Laos or Malaysia and apply for an ed visa (2 days). Back to Thailand and start school.

Not every embassy/consulate has the same requirements for METV...check their website. If you can't get the METV, get the 60day Single Entry Tourist Visa (SETV). The requirements are usually less. That should still give you time to find a school and get the paperwork to apply for the ed visa.

Or anywhere there is a Thai embassy/Consulate, not only Lao or Cambodia....all you need for the 6 month metv is $7,000 in a Bank acct, passport, return ticket, and $200 for processing fee....then decide what you want when you get here
