TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around the process of obtaining a 30-day extension for a visa in Jomtien, Thailand. Participants suggest that while hiring an agent is not necessary due to the straightforward process, some prefer it to avoid long waits at immigration. Common recommendations include an agent near the immigration office on Soi 5, with costs generally around 1,900 to 4,000 Baht for the service. There are also suggestions to handle the extension independently at the immigration office to save money.

In CM it's a 30 second stop at the drive through kiosk at the main immigration office.. or alternatively go to the one at L2 Central Festival.. usually a 5 minute exercise!

Contacts would be an Immigration Officer in Chonburi Immigration Office Jomtien. The price would be 1,900 baht

We had our 30 day extension done by an agency right next to Immigration on Soi 5. Office right in back of cafe/coffee shop. I believe its name is Thai Visa 2. Easy to find at any rate. Their cost was 1900 Baht plus the 1900 Baht extension cost. We got right in, walked to front of line of people waiting. Plus we didn’t have a TM 30 and they took care of everything. Totally worth the money for the time savings.

Jomtien can sometimes be a difficult office for doing things yourself, (because lots of agents use it) you might get lucky, and be in and out in an hour, but if you go on a busy day you could be in there for hours!! if you don't want the hassle just use a recommended agent, there is an agent in an office, actually inside the immigration office at jomtien, as you walk in they are on the left hand side, you can do all the photocopies and photos in there, and then if your struggling, you can ask them to assist you.

Had to return 4 times at Jomtien and I had all the paperwork the first visit.

Absolutely ridiculous, waiting in the queue every time too. Never again!

In cahoots with the agents I'm guessing...

@Glen ********
absolutely, they purposely make it a long draw out process, by just sending you from one desk to another, to "check your documents" when they know everything is in order, at the first desk you go to, queuing up every time, I have experienced this myself, being in there for hours and hours, that's what they want you to say "never again" and just pay an agent, jomtien immigration have said for a long time, only come for a 30 day extension, when you have a week or less on your current stamp, but I've heard of people being sent away, and them only being able to do it, on the last day of expiry. 😳

it's a total gong show. I was there 3 different days. Twice on the first day. Thank goodness there is 60 day visa exempt now. I won't go through all that nonsense for another 30 day extension.

It would be foolish to use an agent for that.

You need to orovide the agent the same documents, as you have to give to the Immigration officer.

Look at the website of the local immigration office, for exact which documents you need, or get their hand-out information sheet, when passing the immigration office.

Usually it takes 5-10 minutes to hand in the documents, and collect the passport 2-3 hours later ( again 5-10 minutes ) or the next day if that suits you better.

So easy in Jomtien, you can do it yourself.

Geoff Carter posted a video on this. It looked a mess. I suppose if you are an old gipper with nothing else to do but stand around in a queue, I can see why one wouldn't want to use an agent

I'm in my late 30s, but I have nothing to do but gym and chasing girls. You have to time it right, go after 2 pm. Let the moring crowd wait in line. Then you just pick up your passport the next day. Take less than an hour.

2 good comments but I know from experience waiting in massive queues wasting a day not fun...Pay a agent Bht 4000 cheap

@Patrick *******
waiting all day? I filled out a form, gave them copies they wanted, went off for 45 mins for coffee, came back and all done. But that was in Phuket.
Lynnette *******
@Patrick *******
try not to be an idiot by getting triggered by someone who said they were fortunate not to waste a day when extending somewhere else.
Patrick ********
@Lynnette ******
retard omg

@Patrick *******
you may think being abusive is clever, but it isn't.
Lynnette *******
@Patrick *******
obviously you think calling someone a "retard" makes you smart. . just because they mentioned how quickly Phuket did their extension.
Lynnette *******
@Patrick *******
I was surprised it took a day. So I merely said how quick it was in Phuket. You know, a comparison. No need to get outraged about it.
Patrick ********
@Lynnette ******
Cannot compare Phuket and Jomtien 2 different things
Jim ********
You really don’t need an agent to do a 30 day extension. It’s a straightforward process
Anthony ******************
@Jim *******
he did not ask if he needed an agent the question was asking for referrals. There could be a number of issues where an Agent can help.
