good morning. I have a friend who wants to do a 30-day extension of stay. an agent is telling him that he has to show up at the appointment. what is the logic of using an agent if you have to go anyway? is it really necessary for the applicant to go to immigration when using an agent?. thank you for helping and I appreciate the advice

TLDR : Answer Summary
When applying for a 30-day extension of stay in Thailand, it is generally unnecessary to use an agent since applicants must appear in person at the immigration office regardless of whether an agent is involved. Various commenters suggest that the process can be straightforward and merely requires filling out forms, providing a photo, and paying a fee. However, some agents may expedite the process or accommodate specific local office requirements. Ultimately, while agents can provide convenience, they are not essential for this type of visa extension.

I use an agent as time is of the essence for me and the walk in/out 5 minute treatment is worth the extra 500.baht.

My passport says “under consideration” does this mean I will likely be denied another month

it means you turn up on the exact date specified and you will get your extension

and do I pay again?

show up with your passport and the blue receipt. That's it. And you'll get the rest of the days of the initial extension you requested. We don't know how many that is based on what you've said.

It would help if you clarified which area. Each office is different but the agent speeds up the process or in the case of Jomtien makes it happen.

Many offices will want to take a photo of you as part of the application process which is why you have to go in person. Unusual to do so for a 30 day extension, but each office have their own rules.

As stated by others you really don’t need an agent for a 30 day extension. Fill in one form, copy a few pages of your passport, have a photo and 1,900 baht.

Why waste money on a agent? Just go to immigration and do it!

You dont need a agent for a lot of things in Thailand, only if you dont meet the requirements of what you want to apply for

The applicant must be present, agent or no agent, except for 90 day reports.

Just go to immigration, fill out the paperwork pay ฿1,900 and wait most likely all day for your extension to be placed in your passport…no agent is needed
