Hi everyone,

I'm currently in Thailand and will need to leave the country in the next few days to apply for the DTV (Digital Nomad) visa from a nearby country.

For those who have successfully applied, which country did you choose and why? I'd love to hear about your personal experience.

- Which Thai embassy/consulate did you use?

- How long did the process take?

- Were they strict about documentation?

- Would you recommend that location to someone applying for the first time?

I'm considering nearby options such as Vietnam, Malaysia, Laos, Cambodia, Taiwan, Indonesia, or the Philippines, but I'm open to any recommendations.

Thanks in advance for sharing your experience!

Don’t listen to anyone who says you don’t get charged a fine. Every IO has the ability to impose the fines according to the law as written. Just because they may not have enforced it in the past is no indication of whether they will or not impose them now.

If you’re only about 5 days over, I probably wouldn’t panic too much yet. A lot of people handle late TM47 reports directly at immigration themselves without major problems. Just bring your passport, copies of your latest visa/stamp pages, TM47 form, and TM30 copy if you have one.

The 4,500 baht sounds more like agency convenience pricing rather than an unavoidable fee. Bangkok immigration deals with late 90-day reports all the time.

Leave it work out your next 90 day turn up at the IO and pay the 2,000 baht fine

The fine is a set 2000 no matter how late. That's the only fee.

Failing to file your Thai 90-day address report (TM.47) results in specific monetary fines and potential visa complications.Standard Late Fine: Filing past the grace period (15 days before to 7 days after the due date) incurs a ฿2,000 fine.Arrest or Checkpoint Fine: If you are caught by authorities or at a border checkpoint without a valid report, the penalty increases to ฿5,000.Ongoing Penalties: Section 76 of the Immigration Act allows for additional daily fines of up to ฿200 per day until the report is corrected.Visa Complications: Repeatedly failing to report can raise red flags on your immigration record, causing potential delays or denials during future visa extensions.

my landlord never did my TM 30 and I sat at the Immigration for hours. And then I finally just left. Maybe I should have done that….. 🤯

When I moved into my condo the owner didn’t do it either. I sent a group Line to him & my agent less than a week after moving in about it.

My agent ended up doing it & my subsequent ones as well.

When I went for my Certificate of Residence for my Thai DL, the IO officer questioned me about the lapse in time between my hotel rental & reported TM30 date. She was nice & didn’t penalize me but mentioned the fines & potential issues going forward.

Go back to immigration, be polite, dressed nicer than most Farangs (it’s a government office after all) & you might get a good officer.

Good luck.
