Hi All,

I'm Planning to heading to Thailand in June/July. Hoping someone can help me with a question on the Alternative State Quarantine.

I will be working remotely making phone calls using my international number that relies on Internet connection... so having good internet all the time is absolutely key!

Can anyone recommend an ASQ that has really good Internet or an alternative solution that will allow my phone to have good 4G connection?

Thank you.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user inquires about Alternative State Quarantine (ASQ) options in Thailand that offer reliable internet service, as they plan to work remotely making phone calls. Community responses suggest that 4G mobile service is generally good in Thailand and recommend purchasing a local SIM card. Specific ASQ hotels with high-speed internet, such as Le Méredien and general tips on ensuring connectivity are also discussed.

Le Méredien was top-notch. Bangkok in general has the fastest broadband in the world. I also got 5G with AIS.

Oh, and remember your SIM card tray key, if you use Samsung! I spent a day trying to find one in BKK.

its always the small things isn't it! A paperclip sometimes suffices, unsure if that would be quicker or not to find! I'll put one in the suitcase now.

I guess a pin or paperclip might have worked, yeah. 😆

AIS is fine. I'm on 4G and had no reason to upgrade to 5G as the speeds are fine for Voip phone calls. They do have 5G networks as well.

Buy a SIM card and keep it topped up. I did this as a back up. With all the rooms being full in a hotel the internet is good at times and other times not so good.

There are many mobile phone companies on arrival level at the airport. Not sure you will be able to stop at one of these stores on arrival. Not even sure they are open.

stores sell SIM cards. You need to show passport. Not sure ASQ. Hotel will buy for you.

how did you buy the sim card, did the hotel help?

Mobile 4G in Thailand is pretty good, you should be fine regardless with a sim card.

thank you is it possible to get a sim card to the ASQ or does a UK sim work there?

I'm already in Thailand and been here over a year so I'm not familiar with the particulars or quarantine. With that said, if you can have anything delivered to you, it may be possible to have someone buy it for you at any 7-11. True and AIS are the two main phone companies and it costs like $10 per month for an unlimited plan or pay as you go for 30 days. I'd suggest buy both and test their speeds at your particular location. Download the app "Grab" which is like Uber/Uber Eats/Postmates all rolled into one.

DTAC is better than both AIS and True

In fairness I've never ever tried DTAC in my 4 years here so I guess it could be true. Also in fairness everyone I ever asked never once said DTAC was better than True or AIS.

Download the speedtest app and share your speed results? honestly curious.

I’m on AIS but my tv is on True n I hate it.

Used it for over 10 years, never any problems. True seems to be a nightmare, the Thai's are always complaining about it.

In what way is it better than AIS? I've had no problem with speeds or quality on AIS and various places.

Thank you very much for the information. If the hotel can deliver a sim that would be a really good solution!
